Ontario is ordering the province's 60,000 public workers back to the office.
Currently, provincial government employees are mandated to be in their offices at least three days a week.
That will increase to four days starting this fall and full time in January.
Premier Doug Ford says it's time.
All the companies I've talked to from the banks to the insurance companies to,
to everyone else. Everyone needs to go back to work.
Half the public service is already at work five days a week,
and I want to thank them, and I just look forward to having everyone back to work.
The move follows a similar announcement by Canada's four biggest banks
headquartered in Toronto.
Air Canada has started suspending flights as its flight attendants prepare for a potential strike this weekend.
The airline has responded with a lockout notice.
Hundreds of flights are expected to be canceled by Saturday.
Saturday's strike deadline. Ippel Mousa has more on the state of negotiations.
That's very unfortunate.
Air Canada officials were interrupted by QP members this morning,
quietly holding protest signs. It appears negotiations between Canada's largest airline
and the union representing more than 10,000 flight attendants remain at an impasse.
They made the very last days of negotiations meaningless by making unsustainable offers.
Ariel Melul Wexler is Air Canada's chief.
Human Resources Officer. They refused our offer of arbitration, and they sent us a strike notice
as soon as they were legally able to do so. The main sticking points, wages, work rules, and
unpaid hours. Natasha Stea is with Cupy. I really feel that the employer is counting on the government
to come in, swoop in, and save all of this. Federal jobs minister, Patty Heidu, says she's met with
both parties throughout the bargaining process, and she strongly urges them to come to an agreement. Ivel
In Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley, officials have expanded an evacuation order due to an out-of-control wildfire.
Dozens of homes are affected.
Officials say the fire was started by a lightning strike.
They say the remote area makes it hard for response teams to get in.
Four helicopters are assisting ground crews trying to contain the fire.
Officials in Port Albany on Vancouver Island are hoping favorable weather conditions will give them an advantage.
The Mount Underwood fire there is burning nearby and remains out of control.
Julia Wong has the latest.
We are 24-hour operation right now.
Crews are working furiously to gain the upper hand on the Mount Underwood wildfire,
according to Stefan Hood with BC wildfire.
The fire is burning kilometers away from Port Albany on Vancouver Island.
Several evacuation orders and evacuation alerts have been issued.
87 firefighters are using helicopters and heavy equipment
as they try to contain the fire.
But there is some positive news.
The wind is looking to back off a little bit.
The temperatures are dropping.
The relative humidity is increasing.
And hopefully all of this coming to a rain event that should help us.
Hood warns the rain won't be enough to put out the wildfire.
But he says it could buy them sometime and limit fire growth.

California's governor is moving forward with a plan to redraw the state's congressional maps.
The new maps are an effort to help Democrats win five more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 midterms.
It's a response to a Republican-led gerrymandering effort in Texas.
Proposed legislation there would potentially send five more Republicans to Congress to help them hold a slim U.S. House majority.
Governor Gavin Newsom says the plan is about protecting democracy.
We're here because Donald Trump, on January 6th, try to light democracy on fire.
He doesn't play by a different set of rules.
He doesn't believe in the rules.
We have got to recognize the cards that have been dealt.
And we have got to meet fire with fire.
Newsom has called for a special election for California residents to vote on the new maps in November.
And that is your world this hour.
For CBC News, I'm Mandy Sham.
Thank you.
