I'd like to see it actually happen maybe in Alaska where we just stay because it's so much easier. While neither Moscow nor Kiev are willing to compromise on key demands, Putin praising Trump ahead of his trip to Alaska. The current American administration is making energetic and sincere efforts to stop the hostilities, he said.
Starting point is 00:01:33 According to European leaders, Trump has promised to leave any negotiations about land to Zelensky. And there could be a joint press conference after the meeting, depending on how it goes. Lisa Scheng, CBC News, Washington. Air Canada is now canceling flights ahead of a potential strike on Saturday, thanks to a labor dispute. Customers are trying to stay hopeful that a possible strike involving flight attendants won't disrupt their upcoming travel plans. Jamie Strassion reports. For Air Canada passengers hoping to get home or take a long anticipated holiday, a looming job action has turned plans upside down. Including this father hoping to get to Newfoundland and Labrador to see his daughter compete in the Canada Games.
Starting point is 00:02:16 It's extremely nerve-wracking because we have no clue if we're going to be able to make it. With no deal between Air Canada and its more than 10,000 flight attendants, a strike or lockout could begin early Saturday morning. The airline is already canceling some flights, starting with international long hauls. Nerve-wracking for Letitia Halberdell trying to get home from Taipei to write an exam. I'm just really worried that if I don't get back on time and I can't take this, like I'm not going to be able to graduate. Air Canada says 500 more flights will be canceled Friday. The airline says customers can change travel plans without a fee and will receive refunds if flights are canceled. Jamie Strachan, CBC News, Toronto.
Starting point is 00:02:57 As wildfires continue to rage across Newfoundland in Labrador, there are growing concerns that some of them were deliberately set. Police in St. John's have already charged a 20-year-old man with arson. And RCMP are investigating whether the province's largest fire, which is 90 minutes away, may have also been through human origins. Karen Pauls explains. My heart literally shattered. Scott Chandler and Robin Dwyer watched the flames surround their house until their doorbell video died.
Starting point is 00:03:29 They got confirmation soon after. It was destroyed. And what they say is the 12th fire set in their community since May. They're creating fear. People are getting angry. And rightfully so. To know that someone potentially
Starting point is 00:03:42 deliberately did this, it puts it at a different level of grief. They're not the only one saying, that. Susan Rose is a counselor for the town of Small Point Broadcove Blackhead Adams Cove. She spent Thursday giving homeowners the news they've been dreading. I don't even know what's saying anymore. RCMP Inspector Adam Palmer says the major crimes unit is investigating, asking anyone with information or video to contact them.
Starting point is 00:04:08 A number of the fires have been identified as being non-intentional acts. There are also fires, though, that we are treating as very suspicious. Karen Paul's, CBC News near Carbonear, Newfoundland. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has ordered the D.C. government to recognize Terry Cole as D.C.'s Emergency Police Commissioner. Cole is the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration. Bondi has also ordered sweeping changes to D.C. police policies, which has drawn immediate legal pushback from the D.C.
