I'm not doing this for my health, okay? I don't need it. I'd like to focus on our country, but I'm doing this to save a lot of lives. Trump has long stated his desire to end the war in Ukraine. This summit, he hopes, will be the first step. But neither Ukraine nor Russia
Starting point is 00:01:21 have indicated they'll budge on key demands. Moscow wants territorial concessions. Kiev security guarantees. Now, signs there could be agreements on more than just the war. I noticed he's bringing a lot of business people from Russia, and that's good. Both the White House and Kremlin say there could be a second meeting involving Ukraine if the initial one goes well. It's burned more than 9,000 hectares and an estimated 100 homes. Newfoundland Premier John Hogan. People in Conception Bay North area are starting to receive word from their municipalities and the RCMP about structure losses that are impacting their communities. So to those who have received that terrible and fortunate news who have lost their homes, our thoughts are with you all. Hogan says firefighters hoped to get six water bombers and a heavy capacity helicopter airborne weather permitting. Heavy smoke has settled over the small city of Port Albarnie on Vancouver Island, triggering an air alert statement, an air quality
Starting point is 00:02:49 statement in the region. The smoke is wafting in from an out-of-control wildfire burning mere kilometers from the community. Julia Wong has more. It feels like I'm smelling a campfire everywhere I go. Thick smoke on the waterfront in Port Albany is not what Tobias Granaman was expecting on his vacation. Air quality in the community has deteriorated as the Mount Underwood wildfire burns nearby. The smoke so rough. Several businesses here close their doors for the day. Soriana Sherard is the owner of a smoothie business called Juice. And then because we keep our front window open to serve the customers. Unfortunately, that's not possible. Yeah, it's just too much.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Today, definitely the quality of the air is pretty bad, and that's not the ideal, neither for me or for my employees. Rain is helping the firefight, but the wildfire continues to burn out of control. As of Friday morning, it was 34 square kilometers. Julia Wong, CBC News, Port Albany, British Columbia. If they do show up at the table, we're there, we're waiting. With just hours to go before a potential strike or lockout that could upend flight plans for thousands of Canadians, the union representing more than 10,000 flight attendants has rejected Air Canada's request for binding arbitration. Union President Natasha Staia says the appropriate course of action is to resume good faith bargaining.
Starting point is 00:04:17 We want to get a collective agreement. We don't want to have our rights as Canadians, stripped away simply to be forced in a contract. Air Canada insists it still wants to reach a deal but says the union's demands are unsustainable.
