Starting point is 00:01:04 Some are not that significant. One is probably the most significant. That one point, likely a ceasefire in Ukraine, Trump has long wanted. Putin more legitimized after the meeting with Trump saying it has been long overdue, though he was equally vague on any progress made. We are prepared to work on that. I would like to hope that the agreement that we've reached together will help us bring closer that goal. Trump saying he will brief Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and the NATO countries,
Starting point is 00:01:35 but no mention of severe consequences he threatened should there be no ceasefire. Lisa Sching, CBC News, Washington. The union representing Air Canada's flight attendants has rejected the company's request for binding arbitration. Hundreds of flights have been cancelled and workers will walk off the job at 1 a.m. Eastern time on Saturday if the two sides can't reach an agreement. Philip Lee Shanak has the latest. Andres Mendes' flight out of Toronto's Pearson Airport has been pushed back three hours. We're hoping that is just a delay. Air Canada says it's ramping up cancellations after the union representing its flight attendants
Starting point is 00:02:10 rejected the company's request for federal arbitration. Spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick says the airline is winding down operations, upending travel for tens of thousands of passengers. We're already experienced a labor disruption even before the strike started, so that's why we're having the cancellations. Natasha Stey is with the Flight Attendance Union. She believes the company would rather the government intervene than bargain in good faith.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Why are they canceling your flights? We're at the table. We want to talk. The strike deadline is 1 a.m. Saturday morning. Air Canada says check its website before heading to the airport. Philip Lyshanock, CBC News, Toronto. New Brunswick has 23 active fires burning, and the biggest one near Mirmishi has grown into nearly 14 square kilometers.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Natural Resources Minister, John Herron, says what's needed is some mistype ring to assist with firefighting efforts. In the meantime, crews are using water bombers to snuff out fires before they become even more problematic. They are making a fair amount of progress with respect to building out a fire break. Part of the infrastructure which we're going to have to require
Starting point is 00:03:17 in order to contain that fire. 40 additional firefighters will be coming from Ontario on Saturday. A teacher at a BC secondary, School has been charged with several offenses, including internet luring of a child and child pornography-related offenses. The school's principal sent out a letter to parents letting know that Laveh Ramsaha was removed from his duties once the district became aware of the allegations. Mayor Baines reports.
Starting point is 00:03:42 The Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadow School District confirms serious criminal charges have been laid against Lavish Ramsaha, who is teaching at Pitt Meadow Secondary. Ramsaha has been charged with four offenses, including internet luring of a child under 18, making or publishing child pornography, importing or distributing child pornography, and making sexually explicit material available to a child under 18. The Prosecution Service says all four counts date from August 1, 2024 to February 18th of this year. The school's principal, Colin Sharp, sent out a statement to families that says the school took immediate steps after becoming aware of the allegations.
Starting point is 00:04:23 He says Mr. Ramshaha was removed from his duties and has not. not been working in the district since March. Ramsaha is not being held in custody.
