Starting point is 00:00:26 Certain conditions apply. from cbc news the world is sour i'm neil kumar breaking news the canadian union of public employees that represents air canada's 10,000 flight attendants is now in a legal position to strike as of 1258 a.m eastern time this comes after a 72 hour strike notice that was given on wednesday labor action can now begin as there's no word of a deal being reached air canada is expected to gradually wind down operations ahead of the possible strike. The airline says it has canceled 623 flights affecting more than 100,000 passengers. The company also says that it will issue a lockout notice. Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have wrapped up their meeting in Alaska without a deal on the warm Ukraine. Lisa Sching brings us the latest from Washington. Next time in Moscow. Starting point is 00:01:32 Many points were agreed to. There are just a very few that are left. Some are not that significant. One is probably the most significant. That one point, likely a ceasefire in Ukraine, Trump has long wanted. Putin more legitimized after the meeting with Trump, saying it has been long overdue, though he was equally vague on any progress made. We are prepared to work on that. I would like to hope that the agreement that we've reached together will help us bring closer that goal. Trump saying he will brief Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and the NATO countries, but no mention of severe consequences he threatened should there be no ceasefire. Starting point is 00:02:17 New Brunswick has 23 active fires burning, and the biggest one near Mir Mishi has grown to nearly 14 square kilometers. Natural Resources Minister John Heron said, says what's needed is some mistyped range to assist with firefighting efforts. In the meantime, crews are using water bombers to snuff out fires before they become even more problematic. They are making a fair amount of progress with respect to building out a fire break. Part of the infrastructure which we're going to have to require in order to contain that fire.
Starting point is 00:02:47 40 additional firefighters will be coming from Ontario on Saturday. 20 Nova Scotia firefighters will be returning to their province to support wildfire efforts there. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Aran has intensified into a category two storm. According to a Miami-based forecaster, Hurricane Aran, is about 400 kilometers northeast of Anguila with maximum sustained winds of 100 miles per hour. The hurricane is expected to rapidly intensify into a major storm this weekend. Seven years, 700 mines, and one historic liftoff. It was a groundbreaking moment in northern Quebec on Friday when a rocket launched from Kree land for the first time. As J. LaBernsey reports, the project marks a powerful partnership that could shape Canada's future space endeavors.

Now that was the largest student-built rocket ever flown. The students reached out to the Cree Nation of Mysticiny asking if they could use their land roughly six. months ago. Pamela McLeod is coordinator of land management and environment. So we'd never received a request like this before. I think we saw it as an opportunity to be a part of something that historic, but an opportunity also to collaborate. She says they were eager to integrate their culture, giving the rocket a cre name.
