Defiant Air Canada flight attendants say they will not obey the federal government's back-to-work order. QP says Ottawa's rapid interference is a violation of their charter right to collective bargaining. Jamie Strassion has the story. At a rally at Toronto's Pearson Airport, Air Canada's flight attendants said they will defy a back-to-work order. Wesley Lysoski is the president of the Air Canada component of QP. Starting point is 00:01:07 Air Canada had said flights would resume this evening after the federal government intervened, ordering an end to the strike and lockout and binding arbitration. The one-day work stoppage caused about 700 flights to be suspended and stranded more than 100,000 passengers. The flight attendants were ordered to return to work by 2 p.m. Eastern today, angering QB members like Lillian Speedy. I'm sorry, snowstorms have shut down Air Canada for longer than we were allowed to strike.
Starting point is 00:01:37 Neither the government or Air Canada has responded to the flight attendance announcement that they plan to defy the back-to-work order. Jamie Strash and CBC News, Toronto. Ukraine's president will head to Washington tomorrow for what could be a pivotal meeting with the U.S. president. Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Whitkoff, says during Friday's Alaska Summit, the Russian president agreed to allow the U.S. and other Ukrainian allies to provide Ukraine with security guarantees. We got to an agreement that the United States and other European nations could effectively offer Article 5-like language to cover a security guarantee. Putin has
Starting point is 00:02:21 said that a red flag is NATO admission. Assuming that the Ukrainians could agree to that, we were able to win the following concession, that the United States could offer Article 5-like protection. NATO's Article 5 states an attack on any NATO member is considered an attack on all NATO members. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with European leaders ahead of their trip to Washington tomorrow. The so-called coalition of the willing held a video call to figure out a united approach to their meeting with Donald Trump. Zelensky insists the fighting must stop for peace talks to succeed. It's impossible to do this under the pressure of weapons. So it's necessary to ceasefire and work quickly on a final deal. Putin does not want to stop the killing,
Starting point is 00:03:12 but he must do it. The leaders of the UK, Germany, Italy, Finland and the EU will accompany Zelensky to Washington. Thousands of Palestinians are trying to flee parts of Gaza City following the Israeli government's announcement that it intends to take control of the city. While in Israel, tens of thousands of people took part in a nationwide strike, demanding a deal to release the hostages still held by Hamas. Dominic Volaitis has the story. Palestinians in Gaza City are on the move. Parts of the city have been under days of continuous Israeli bombardment.
Starting point is 00:03:48 At least 40 people have been killed across the territory this weekend alone. The Israeli government intends to take control. of Gaza City and plans to forcibly displace a million people to camps in the south. Among them is Noaman Hamad. It's clear there's no humanitarian solution here, he says. This is a new displacement operation, an attempt to seize the land and areas. Meanwhile, thousands of Israelis took part in a nationwide strike today in support of the families of hostages still held in Gaza,
Starting point is 00:04:24 waving flags and carrying photos of those taken, they called on Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu to reach an agreement with Hamas to end the war and release the remaining captives.
