Starting point is 00:00:26 Certain conditions apply. from cbc news it's the world this hour i'm joe cummings it is another chaotic day for travelers as the labor dispute continues between air canada and the union representing its flight attendants as a picket line up this morning outside toronto's pearson international airport Air Canada says it plans to resume flights as of this evening. However, it's not clear at this point whether that will happen. The airline's flight attendants have been defying a back-to-work order from the federal government and have filed a court challenge demanding their right to collective bargaining. Air Canada says more than 900 flights were canceled yesterday, leaving thousands of travelers scrambling to salvage their travel plans.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Ukrainian president, Vladimir Zelensky, is in Washington today for talks at the White House with U.S. West President Donald Trump. And in a show of unity for the Ukrainian war effort, Zelensky will be joined by the Prime Minister of Britain, the President of France, and other European members of the so-called Coalition of the Willing. Crystal Gamansing has more from London. I hope and I believe that it might produce positive result for Ukraine. Alexander Mreshko, a Ukrainian MP, says they need to see in writing what's on the table and have the ability to counter land concessions, no NATO membership, but American-backed security guarantees. Fred Flights is with the American First Policy Institute.
Starting point is 00:02:07 He served as chief of staff on the National Security Council during Donald Trump's first term. I think at a minimum, Ukraine should be armed to the teeth after a ceasefire or peace agreement to make sure that Russia never invades again. Vladimir Zelensky remains defiant that Ukraine. Ukraine will not give up any territory. Trump has already laid on the pressure posting on truth social that Zelensky can end the war with Russia almost immediately if he wants to. Crystal Gamansing, CBC News, London. Pierre Polyev's name is on the ballot in today's federal by-election in the Alberta riding of Battle River Crowfoot. With his political future hanging in the balance,
Starting point is 00:02:51 the Conservative Party leader needs a seat in the House of Commons after losing his home writing in the general election back in April. And Pauliev is expected to win. In almost every election over the past 25 years, the conservative candidate has won this writing with at least 80% support of the electorate. The one exception was in 2021 when the conservative incumbent finished with 71% support. He was one of Canada's most prolific artists, but never maintained any detailed record of his works. And as a result, Norval Morissot's catalog is become a popular target for forgeries. His estate and his adult children have long maintained that they are the victims, but court documents are showing they may have allegedly played a role
Starting point is 00:03:34 in the fraud. Michelle Allen reports. That was Norval saying, you guys, how dare you do that? Richie Sinclair was one of Norval Morso's apprentices. He says the late Anishnabe artist long fought against fraudulent copies of his work. Court documents linked his children and estate to a dealer who pleaded guilty to forgery. A police inspector who investigated the fraud says some of Morissot's children were paid to authenticate paintings. It was really difficult to fight this fight
Starting point is 00:04:02 with them either sitting on the sidelines or protecting fraudsters. Art fraud lawyer Jonathan Summer spent 16 years representing clients who bought questionable Morissos. For years, the late artist's estate and children presented themselves
Starting point is 00:04:19 as victims of forgers and art dealers. The children never face charges. They denied all claims in their defense. Sinclair says there could be thousands of forgeries still out there. You know, so this is coming out no matter what. He says Moro's legacy has been wounded by the fraud.
