an appeals court has thrown out the civil fraud penalty imposed on donald trump in his lawsuit accusing him of exaggerating his wealth
a panel of five judges in new york's appellate division has ruled that the verdict was quote excessive
After finding that Trump engaged in fraud by inflating financial statements that went to lenders and insurers,
the judge in that case last year ordered Trump to pay what would have amounted to more than $500 million.
The civil fraud case was just one of several legal obstacles for Trump as he campaigned
and subsequently won a second term as U.S. president.
Still with news from the U.S. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is in Washington today,
meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The two have spoken before by telephone, but until today, they've never talked face-to-face.
The Trump tariff campaign is expected to dominate the agenda with Canada's steel, aluminum, and auto sectors,
among those being hit the hardest as the two countries continue to negotiate a new trade deal.
Israel says it has launched the initial phase of its military offensive on Gaza City.
Israeli troops have already established a foothold on the outskirts as hundreds of Palestinians flee their neighborhoods.

that a military operation against Gaza City would inevitably cause.
The Israeli decision, which it says is aimed at rooting out what remains of Hamas
and rescuing hostages, has dampened optimism
that a 60-day ceasefire might be agreed.

German police have arrested a Ukrainian citizen suspected of damaging the Nord Stream pipeline system.
The underwater pipelines deliver Russian natural gas to Germany,
and they were damaged by a series of explosions three years ago shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine.
The suspect was taken into custody in Italy.
The Ukrainian government has long denied any involvement in the targeting of the pipelines.
Venezuela is in the process of mobilizing its military as U.S. warships.

group of three ships carrying a land in force with 4,000 Marines is expected to arrive in the
area next week. The Trump administration has accused the Venezuelan leader of being a major drug
trafficker. Earlier this week, Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said that the U.S. government
