Starting point is 00:01:27 but in a video statement, Benjamin Netanyahu said all the hostages must be freed. Israel, he said, will begin negotiations to, in his words, end the war. But it's unclear what, if anything, has changed. The denial by the California Board of Parole hearings marks a significant development in the decades-long case. Eric, who is now 54 years old, has spent more than 30 years behind bars. Saskatchewan is joining Ottawa's diplomatic efforts to lift Chinese tariffs on Canadian canola. Beijing raised the levies to almost 76 percent accusing Canada of unfair trade practices. Starting point is 00:02:38 A new Chinese tariff on canola seed, in addition to existing duties on canola oil and meal, has shut Canadian producers out of their second largest market. We're sort of hamstrung by what the government has been doing. The federal government says it will discuss the issue with China next week. At the Joint Economic and Trade Commission, Cody Bloy is Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister. We know the anxiety of the uncertainty of the market access right now and what this means. Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says he plans to go to China to lay some diplomatic groundwork. But, you know, ultimately, as I said, it is going to be a nation-to-nation discussion.

In Quebec, seven city councillors in Saginae are calling on the mayor to tender her resignation. Julie Dufour plans to appeal after a judge convicted her of corrupt electoral practices on Wednesday. As Rowan Kennedy reports, a judge found that she tried to bribe an opponent not to run in 2021. Michel Tremblay says citizens and city councillors have lost confidence in Julie Zufour. Half of counsel in Sagney is publicly calling on the mayor to resign. Serge Godreauze, the city councilor for Shikutsi Minor.
Starting point is 00:04:00 She needs to drop out of the race this fall, he says. A judge found Zufour guilty of one of three charges of corrupt electoral practices under the Municipal Elections Act. He acquitted her of the other two saying there were inconsistencies in witness testimony. Three of her opponents in the 2021 mayoral race testified she offered them high-ranking positions or money to drop out. The ruling could impose a fine as well as. remove her from office and ban her from running again for five years.
Starting point is 00:04:30 But Zafur says she plans to appeal the verdict, which would allow her to stay on and seek re-election.
