from cbc news the world this hour i'm neil kumar unsealed court documents revealed new details
about the arrest of four men from quebec including two active duty soldiers who were accused of plotting a violent takeover
of an extremist enclave on canadian soil sarah levitt has the details the investigation began in march
2023 looking into an Instagram account.
But it quickly grew.
Four men were put under intense surveillance.
Mark O'Rare, Chabot and Matthew Forbes,
both serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces,
Simon Angé O'D, a former member,
and Rafael Lagasse, a civilian instructor.
The RCMP alleges Chabot
was the de facto leader of a group of extremists.
In Quebec, the RCMP soon tapped the men's cell phones,
put GPS trackers on their vehicles,
and monitored both their mail deliveries and banking.
Training sessions were also recorded.
Aerial shots show unidentified individuals fully kidded in gear
using handguns, long guns with illegal magazines and smoke grenades.
The men were arrested in July.
Angé, Odé, Chabot and Lagasse are being detained until their trial.

Convicted killer Eric Menendez has been denied parole after spending more than 30 years in prison for the murder of his parents.
His brother, Lyle's case, will still get its own review.
Cameron McIntosh has kept a close watch on this notorious case.
He appeared virtually from prison today.
The hearing lasting more than 10 hours.
It heard from Menendez himself.
It heard from the Los Angeles District Attorney.
And also it heard plenty of victim impact statements.
The ruling from the California Parole Board is that.
that it couldn't be convinced that Eric Menendez wouldn't pose a unreasonable risk to society.
In the decision, the commissioner of the board said that Eric has shown progress in rehabilitation,
but also has a history of violating prison rules, including drug smuggling, misuse of computers,
cell phone use, which is banned, and he has a couple of fights on his record.
The commissioner saying it demonstrated an attitude of feeling the rules don't apply to him.
He can't apply again for three years.

Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke on the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday.
It's the first time since August 1st that both leaders have spoken.
That was when the imposed deadline by Trump to reach a new trade deal expired.
The Prime Minister's office says the call was productive and wide-ranging.
There will not be an appeal in the Hockey Canada trial that found five men not guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a London hotel room back in 2018.
As the CBC's Katie Dubinsky reports, the decision marks the end of a years-long criminal case.
In her judgment, acquitting five former world junior hockey players last month,
Justice Maria Carousia basically appeal-proofed her decision
by finding the complainant in the case not credible and not reliable.
Legal experts say a court of appeal cannot disrupt credibility findings
unless they're patently biased or unfair.
But those who advocate for survivors of sexual assault say there are,
disappointed. Jesse Roger is with London's ANOVA. They say an appeal could have been a way for the
legal system to stand up for women and victims of sexual assault. This decision reinforces the
message that the legal system is not broken. It is working as it was intended to harm, silence,
and revictimize. Lawyers for the players didn't return calls asking for comment. Hockey Canada and
the NHL Players Union declined to comment. Kate Dabinsky, CBC News, London. The world's top female
golfers are looking ahead to round two of the CPKC Women's Open on Friday.
