Starting point is 00:00:42 humanitarian crisis in gaza a declaration today from the united nations be in no doubt that this is irrefutable testimony it is a famine the gaza famine It is the first official confirmation from the UN that there is famine in Gaza, and it says it is a result of ongoing hostilities, frequent displacement, and Israeli aid blockades. Margaret Evans has more. A declaration of famine by the UN's top watchdog on hunger has only rarely been made over the past 25 years in Sudan, Somalia, and twice in South Sudan, and now Gaza City. For an official declaration of famine, 30% of children under five must be suffering from acute malnutrition
Starting point is 00:01:31 and two people dying for every 10,000 of outright starvation. Israel categorically denies the report calling it unfounded propaganda. The UN's Tom Fletcher from the office coordinating humanitarian relief said the report is irrefutable. It is a famine openly promoted by some Israeli leaders as a weapon of war. The famine declaration comes as Israel prepares for a major ground invasion of Gaza City. Margaret Evans, CBC News, Jerusalem. There are reports the FBI is searching the Maryland home of former Trump administration national security adviser John Bolton. Bolton served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and as the White House National Security Advisor during Donald Trump's first term in office.
Starting point is 00:02:21 office, but he has since become a vocal critic of the president, repeatedly saying he is unfit for office. More Jeffrey Epstein files could be released today. The U.S. House Committee says it will be releasing at least some of the documents. It has subpoenaed from the Justice Department. James Comer chairs the Republican-led committee that's investigating the Epstein case. We're going to review and we'll work as quickly as we can. This is sensitive information. We want to make sure we don't do anything to harm or jeopardize any. victims that were involved in this, but we're going to be transparent. We're doing what we said we would do. We're getting the documents, and I believe the White House will work with us.
Starting point is 00:03:01 Donald Trump campaigned on making the files public, but since returning to the White House, his attorney general has reportedly informed him that his name appears in some of the documents. So with the Trump administration, it says it is in the process of scrutinizing some 50 million people who are currently holding U.S. visas. It is looking for violations. that could lead them to be thrown out of the country. Among other things, government officials will be examining social media accounts and police records. Now to London, where bids are being taken until the middle of next month, for an auction that is drawing international attention.
Starting point is 00:03:36 It's the Downton Abbey auction, with props and memorabilia from the beloved TV series being offered up to the highest bidder. Crystal Gimancing has more. Defining scenes from Downton Abbey flashed across a large screen in Bonham's auction house. The auction includes more than 200 lots. Some, like a cane used by the late-day Maggie Smith, could fetch 800 pounds.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Lady Mary's wedding dress, 3 to 5,000. The famous bell wall, it's already over the expected bid of 7,000 pounds. We always expected there to be an American audience.
