Starting point is 00:02:07 talks with the U.S. would intensify. This after both countries failed to reach a deal by Trump's August 1st deadline. I'm fighting for the United States, Canada and Mexico, have taken a lot of our business over the years. Trump says the two countries are working on something, but didn't say what. Starting point is 00:02:40 Ashley Burke, CBC News, Washington. The FBI carried out raids today at the home and office of former Trump administration National Security Advisor John Bolton. It's being suggested the search is part of an investigation into the handling of classified documents. Bolton served during Donald Trump's first term in office, but has since become a vocal critic of the president. The world's leading hunger monitor says Gaza City is officially suffering from famine.
Starting point is 00:03:11 The integrated food security phase classification says more than 500,000 Palestinians are affected. This marks the first time the IPC has recorded famine outside of Africa. Jeremy Lawrence is a spokesperson. with the UN Human Rights Office. He says the famine is a direct result of actions taken by the Israeli government. The Israeli military has destroyed critical civilian infrastructure, almost all agricultural land banned fishing, and forcibly displaced the population, all drivers of this famine. Israeli officials call the findings false and based off data provided by Hamas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel has a policy of preventing starvation.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Ukraine's president is accusing Russia of trying to avoid a meeting. Vladimir Zelensky is calling for a trilateral summit as soon as possible with both Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. At a meeting in Alaska last week, both Putin and Trump suggested top-level talks to end the Ukraine war were progressing. Trump now says he wants to see whether Zelensky and Putin can arrange to meet before making further decisions. And that's whether or not it's massive sanctions or massive tariffs or above, or do we do nothing and say it's your fight, but we'll see what happens. I think in two weeks we'll know which way I'm going, because I'm going to go one way or the other, and they'll learn which way I'm going. Russia accuses Ukraine of not being flexible in talks. And that is the world this hour.
