In most Western countries, including Canada, a celebration like this is greeted with a kind of benevolent, restrained enthusiasm. President Vladimir Zelensky brought that sentiment into sharp focus,
Starting point is 00:01:16 noting up to 20% of his country remains under Russian occupation. And he underlying, Ukraine will never hand over territory to an occupier. But that is precisely what U.S. President is, President Donald Trump wants to happen. This Ukrainian soldier, call sign Motto, speaks for many more troops when he says it isn't fair to fight to hold on to land only to be ordered to give it away.
Starting point is 00:01:41 Polling within Ukraine has shown an overwhelming number of soldiers oppose territorial concessions. Zelensky has told Trump he won't trade land for peace. Israel is hitting Gaza City as it pushes forward with its military offensive to take control, with planes and tanks hitting the city's eastern and northern edges overnight. Israel's trying to force Hamas to stop fighting and return its hostages. But as Dominic Volaitis reports, it's taking an increasing toll on Palestinians.
Starting point is 00:02:14 At Al-Shefa Hospital in Gaza City, the funerals continue. At least 33 people have been killed by Israeli strikes and shooting so far this weekend among the dead two boys. Israel's tightened blockade on Gaza is plunging the territory into a humanitarian catastrophe. According to Palestinian health authorities, nearly 300 people have now died from starvation and malnutrition. The UN's aid chief, Tom Fletcher, says famine in Gaza is now irrefutable. It is a famine that we could have prevented if we had been allowed. The humanitarian medical organisation, Doctors Without Borders, is also sounding the alarm. Months of Israeli bombardment has pretty much destroyed Gaza's entire health system.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Mohamed Abu Mughab Sib is the organization's deputy medical coordinator in Gaza. No, I mean, it's really worse than to call it catastrophe. Dominic Volitus for CBC News, London. Saskatchewan Steelmakers are reacting to Prime Minister Carney's latest trade move. On Friday, Carney announced he was ending most counter tariffs on the United States. But he did not end Canada's counter tariffs on steel. and aluminum. And that's put people like David Fritz in a bind. He's the president and chief operating officer of Supreme Steel in Saskatoon and says Canadian steel makers rely on American

When tariffs are on U.S. steel, that only hurts us, and we don't really have an option for an alternative other than going overseas, which Canada is also telling us that they want to limit imports from. So we're stuck in a lot of ways. President Donald Trump said he wanted to be, quote, good to Canada after that move. Meanwhile, opposition leader Pierre Pauliev said Carney showed weakness. Canada's Brooke Henderson shares the lead heading into today's final round of the CPKC Women's Open. The Canadian National Tournament is being played at the Mississauga Golf and Country Club in Ontario. Henderson, the Smith Falls Ontario native, fired a six under par 65 yesterday to tie for the lead with Australia's Minji Lee at a
