Starting point is 00:00:40 the prime minister made the announcement on a visit to the capital riga mark carney says canada's mission will be extended for three years and we will in the process increase the brigades capabilities here in latvia reinforce our collective defense strengthen our cooperative security and keep the NATO presence strong. Canadian troops have been in Latvia since 2017 as part of Operation Reassurance. It's part of a wider NATO mission to strengthen Europe's eastern flank
Starting point is 00:01:10 and to deter Russia from invading Baltic states. Health officials in London, Ontario, warn a Legionella outbreak they believe to be over is back. They've confirmed 25 new cases just weeks after declaring an end to the outbreak in early August. This year's outbreak has been linked to at least 94 cases of serious pneumonia and four deaths. Investigators have traced it to one of Canada's largest meat processors, Sofina Foods. The region's Associate Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Joanne Kieran, says summer heat is likely to blame for the return of the bacteria.

Starting point is 00:02:07 and that food products from Safina are safe to consume. Protesters blocked a main road in Tel Aviv as part of what they call a nationwide day of disruption. They are calling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to strike an agreement with Hamas, free the hostages and end the war. Hamas has agreed to a proposal to a 60-day ceasefire in return for the release of around half of the 50 remaining hostages. Israel spokesperson David Menser. Meantime, Israel's military has released initial findings into yesterday's double attack on a Gaza hospital that killed 20 people, including five journalists. Israel's report says the strike was aimed at a surveillance camera, they believe, was used by Hamas to watch Israeli soldiers. U.S. President Donald Trump says he is firing a governor of the Federal Reserve. Lisa Cook was the first black woman ever appointed to the role. Cook is fighting back, saying Trump doesn't have the power to fire her. Markintosh is in Washington. From the opening bell on Wall Street, the U.S. dollar index down amid questions over the independence of the U.S. Federal Reserve.
Starting point is 00:03:33 After U.S. President Donald Trump took to social media to fire a Federal Reserve governor. She seems to have had an infraction and she can't have an infraction. Trump is accusing Governor Lisa Cook of mortgage fraud. She's never been charged and says she will sue to keep her job. The Fed is supposed to act independently of politics. Presidents can appoint governors. It's unclear they can remove them without cause. Economist, Attican Bacchus can. These moves, these type of political interference moves, just damages Fed's credibility even more.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Trump has been highly critical of the Fed for taking too long to cut interest rates. He's appointed three of seven governors. It says he wants to replace Cook with someone who will cut rates. Cameron McIntosh, CBC News, Washington. And she has. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey are engaged. A joint social media post shows photos of the football player down on one knee in a lavish garden and a close-up of the giant diamond and gold ring. No word on when Swift's wife era begins.
