For the second time in a week, an evacuation order has been issued in the Northwest Territories.
This time it's for Fort Providence.
Fierce winds are pushing a wildfire towards the hamlet and could reach the outskirts tonight.
The CBC's Juanita Taylor is tracking the flames.
Fort Providence is the latest community that's been issued in evacuation
order. That came through just before 9 a.m. local time. Fire officials are calling the situation
critical. Those northerly winds, they are expected again into the evening, pushing the fire closer
to Fort Providence. And fire officials are saying that there's a very good chance that the fire
will reach Fort Providence tonight. But the community has been building a firebreak, and they're hoping
that that will prove successful. And crews have set up sprinklers and water cannons.
Unfortunately, aircraft haven't been able to be used because of poor visibility,
but fire officials now say that the focus is on structure protection on the ground
because the head of the fire is just too wide to directly attack with crews.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky says a suspect is under arrest
in the murder of the country's former parliamentary speaker.
Antri Parubi was gunned down in broad daylight Saturday.
Zolensky says the accused has spoken with police.
Former Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani is recovering from injuries suffered in a car crash.
He was being driven in New Hampshire Saturday night when he was rear-ended.
He suffered a fractured vertebrae along with cuts and bruises.
Canada and other countries will have to wait until mid-October to learn whether the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a case about Donald Trump's tariffs.
On Friday, a U.S. Federal Appeals Court ruled many of them illegal, but is allowing the tariffs to continue for now.
As Caroline Bargut reports, the White House is striking a defiant tone.
Trump's economic advisor Peter Navarro appeared on Fox Sunday morning futures and calls the ruling politically motivated.
This was weaponized partisan injustice at its worst.
Trump has maintained tariffs will restore manufacturing jobs in the U.S.
and eliminate trade deficits, which will make things more fair.
for America. In a post on Truth Social, he wrote,
if these tariffs ever went away, it would be a total disaster for the country,
saying it would make us financially weak and we have to be strong.
If the case appears in front of the Supreme Court, there's no way to tell which way they'll vote.
But Lawrence Herman, an international trade lawyer and former Canadian diplomat says
they have been known to vote along political lines.
In the United States, these partisan considerations do play a role,
even though the court is supposed to be above politics.
The Trump administration has until October 14th
to submit its appeal to the Supreme Court.

At the Vatican, Pope Leo offered a prayer in English
for those affected by the mass shooting in Minneapolis last week.
Our prayers for the victims of the tragic shooting
during a school mass in the American state of Minnesota.
We include in our prayers the countless children killed,
and injured every day around the world. Let us plead God to stop the pandemic of arms, large and
small, which infects our world. Two children were killed and 15 others were wounded, along with three
senior citizens. The Pope's Sunday message is usually in Italian. The leader of the Catholic
Church also repeated his desire for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and went on to grieve the
dead and missing from a recent migrant boat that capsized off the coast of Mauritania.
Israel says it has killed the spokesman of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, Abu Obeda.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that a joint operation by the Israeli military
and Shin Bet, the Israeli domestic intelligence agency, targeted Abu Obeda over the weekend.
There has been no comment from Hamas.
And that is your world this hour.
