It is imminent that they will run out of water this evening.
Mayor of Conception Bay South, Darren Bent, says he is worried.
The Newfoundland town has declared a state of emergency due to the loss of its water supply.
Ben says they have found a leak in the water main that feeds the entire town's tanks.
So it's directing all businesses to close, effective immediately,
to conserve the remaining water for fire-related emergencies.
A mandatory water conservation order is also in effect.
Residents must limit water use to emergency needs only.
Alberta's government is pausing its order to remove books with explicit sexual content from school libraries.
The order comes after a draft list of books to be removed from Edmonton Schools was leaked online last week.
It contained more than 200 titles, including Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale.
Premier Danielle Smith says the Edmonton school,
division was too heavy-handed in crafting its list.
In the Northwest Territories, the fire threatening Fort Providence is still burning out of control.
But favorable winds over the past day have stopped it from advancing towards the community for now.
Fire information officer Mike Westwick says that gives crews time to prepare for what's to come.
We wouldn't expect to see additional advancement towards the community today.
However, tomorrow is going to be a critical day in terms of fire management as
wind shift to the north, becoming a concern for the community once again.
Westwick says crews are setting up water cannon and sprinklers in the community in case the fire
reaches the town. It remains less than a kilometer away. A limited job action by public sector
workers is now underway in BC. Members of the BC General Employees Union are walking picket
lines in Victoria, Surrey and Prince George. Union President Paul Finch says this initial phase of the
job action is meant to limit inconvenience to the general public.
For the time being, the over 2,000 members on strike this morning, predominantly those
are inward-facing functions. Government will feel it, the general public, less so.
Wages are one of the key issues for the union. Finch says the union could escalate its job
action if there is no improved offer from the government. Quebec's Premier has testified
for three hours at a public inquiry into cost overreact.
