Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi, everybody. I'm J.B. Poisson and I host Frontburner. It's Canada's most listened to daily news podcast. Just the other day, we were in a story meeting talking about how we can barely keep up with what's going on in Canada and the world right now. And like, it's our job to do that. I'm Joe Cummings. Officials in Portugal say a Canadian is among those injured in yesterday's finicular crash in Lisbon.
Starting point is 00:00:42 The Canadian's identity is yet to be released and there are no details at this point regarding the extent of the injuries. 17 people were killed in the incident that saw the glorious streetcar derail and crash into a building. I stand there's more special, I'm feeling. This Lisbon electrician says he thinks there should be more safety inspections.
Starting point is 00:01:05 The yellow and white, glorious street car is a popular tourist attraction in the city. It offers a scenic ride up a steep hill. The government says the cause of the crash is still being investigated, and today Portugal is observing a national day of morning. Now to Washington, where, following a petition filed last night, the Trump administration is taking its terror fight to the Supreme Court. We have a very, very big case. in the Supreme Court. I can only say this. If we don't win that case, our country is going to suffer
Starting point is 00:01:34 so greatly. So great. But I think we're going to have a big victory. From the Oval Office, that's the U.S. President Donald Trump, who's asking the court to issue a ruling as quickly as possible. The administration is arguing the president has the right to continue with his tariff campaign. This after a federal appeals court determined that most of the tariffs issued to date are illegal. Despite that ruling, the court is allowing the tariffs to remain in place for the time being. Now to Toronto and Prime Minister Mark Carney's Cabinet retreat. Ahead of the resumption of Parliament later this month, this two-day, this is day two-day planning session. Tom Perry has more. We're going to focus on being efficient. As he kicked
Starting point is 00:02:18 off his cabinet meeting yesterday, Prime Minister Mark Carney leaned hard into a few key issue. promising to bring in a budget that would include investment but also austerity. So we need to rein in spending. We need to find efficiencies. Carney as well, revealing he spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump this week about a wide range of issues, including tariffs and trade. But while Carney was mapping out his government's priorities for the coming months, the reality is that Mark Carney is failing. Conservative leader Pierre Palliev was in the Toronto area,
Starting point is 00:02:49 taking aim at the Prime Minister over his budget plans and dealings with the U.S. President, Pahliav, who lost his Ottawa area seat in the last election, will be back in the House of Commons when Parliament resumes after winning a safe conservative riding in Alberta in a by-election, the conservative leader looking to challenge the carefully laid plans of Carney and his ministers. Starting point is 00:03:24 small Saskatchewan village, where the RCMP carried out a raid yesterday and arrested 16 adults. Jeffrey Tran has the details. Leave the phone down. You're under arrest. All right. She calls herself the Queen of Canada, and now she's in police custody. Romano Didolo's arrest was captured by her phone in a live stream. Diedelow was one of 16 adults taken by Saskatchewan RCMP after they received a report of a firearm. A search warrant was executed.
Starting point is 00:03:54 at a former school in the village of Richmond, located 365 kilometers west of Regina. Inspector Ashley St. Germain is with the RCMP. We have located and seized four replica handguns, one inside the building, and three inside vehicles. The news comes as a relief for Richmount resident Vanessa Johnson. This is the best day of my life right now, like literally. It's so great that we have finally gotten some movement.
