A woman killed in a mass stabbing in a Manitoba First Nation today was the sister of the suspect. Another seven people were injured as details emerged from Hollow Water First Nation this afternoon. Cameron McIntosh has the latest. The community is all shaken up from it. Christy Williams says her father was one of eight people injured in the early morning stabbing attack. His door was kicking into. He was sleeping in his bed.
Starting point is 00:00:58 RCMP say 26-year-old Tyrone Samard stabbed at least eight people in Hollow Water First Nation, including his 18-year-old sister who died. Samarred was also killed as he fled in a stolen vehicle and collided with an RCMP SUV. An officer was taken to hospital with critical but non-life-threatening injuries. RCMP Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy. Without any doubt, she put her life at risk for the safety and security of Manitobans. The motive for the attack is not. clear. Vancouver officials have released the final report on the car ramming attack at a Filipino street festival in April. A preliminary review found the Lapu Lapu Festival went through all proper procedures for an event that was deemed low risk. Vancouver mayor, Ken Sim, says the final report confirms that is still the case, but it also has a list of key recommendations for the city. Reinforce safety in all outdoor event planning, standardized early planning and entry and exit control, the creation of vehicle mitigation guidance, expanded training and supports for event organizers. The mayor says Vancouver will consider asking the provincial and federal
Starting point is 00:02:24 governments to standardize safety legislation. Saskatchewan RCMP says all 16 people arrested at a compound and rich mound yesterday were released. Among them is the self-proclaimed Queen of Canada, Romana Didolo. She's a cult leader who's been living with her followers in a decommissioned school in the village for the last two years. Police raided that building yesterday after reports of a firearm inside. They say they've seized 13 imitation semi-automatic handguns, ammunition, and electronic devices. They also say two people have been re-arrested, though no charges have been laid yet. A member of the Canadian Armed Forces has gone missing in Latvia.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Warrant officer George Hull was deployed on Operation Reassurance, currently Canada's largest overseas mission. It's part of NATO's defense measures in Europe launched following Russia's invasion of Crimea in 2014. The military says Hull was like. last seen on Tuesday in the town of Adagi. Latvian police and NATO troops are actively conducting search operations. Mark Carney's cabinet is on its second day of meetings at a cabinet retreat in Toronto. Industry Minister Melanie Jolie says the federal government is focused in on the economy
Starting point is 00:03:38 by protecting existing jobs and creating new ones with new projects. We need to invest in housing and we will be coming up with a list of major projects in the coming weeks. We're investing more in defense. Well, we've increased the salaries and the benefits of our Canadian Armed Forces as well. We need to make sure that we're building back capacity, industrial capacity, in Canada. Those investments are coming at a price. Finance Minister Francois Filippe Champagne is warning of tough choices ahead. He says the government's fall budget will contain austerity measures as well as spending. An Israeli military spokesperson says Israel now controls 40% of Gaza, and he says Israel now controls 40% of Gaza city.
Starting point is 00:04:26 And he says the army will expand its operation in the coming days to increase the pressure on Hamas. Gaza health authorities say Israeli fire across the enclave, killed dozens of people since yesterday.
