The Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk speaking in an emergency meeting, he says a large number of Russian drones violated Polish airspace, describing it as posing. a direct threat. Tusk says this is the first time Russian drones have been shot down over the territory of a NATO country. Polish, NATO and Dutch pilots are understood to have been involved. Tusk says Poland is most likely dealing with a large-scale provocation. Russian attacks on Ukraine have increased in recent weeks.
Starting point is 00:01:22 Poland has previously scrambled its own air force along its long eastern border with Ukraine. but until last night, that was only as a precaution. Prime Minister Tusk says he is in constant contact with the head of NATO, Mark Rutter. There remains uncertainty as to whether Russia's actions were deliberate. Anna Cunningham, CBC News, London. ahead of next week's return to Parliament, Prime Minister Mark Carney and the entire Liberal Caucus are meeting today in Edmonton. And for Carney, the visit to Alberta also includes a meeting with the Premier.

Prime Minister Mark Carney arriving in Edmonton to questions about his plan for the fall sitting of Parliament in a meeting he has scheduled later today with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. The one-on-one happening on the eve of Carney's first major projects announcement, an attempt to shore up the Canadian economy as it slows during the trade war with the U.S. This is not business as usual. Medical Association is issuing a warning about the spread of misinformation and its potential to undermine public health. Allison Northcott has the details. Misinformation and disinformation with respect to health care is increasing. Dr. Margo Burnell, president of the Canadian Medical Association, says doctors are facing misinformation in their offices every day. She points to findings from a recent survey of more
Starting point is 00:03:25 than 3,000 Canadians. A third of people are secret. their medical advice from online sources and delaying or postponing, seeking professional treatment. In a statement published Wednesday, Bernal, along with the heads of several provincial and territorial medical associations and other experts say science is under attack in Canada and around the world. They cite examples like misinformation around vaccines. Along with education, the Canadian Medical Association says better access to primary care would help so people can ask doctors about their health instead of relying on the internet. Starting point is 00:04:03 The United Nations has started the process of selecting its next Secretary-General. Antonio Guterres ends his term in December of next year. And Annalina Barbach, the president of the General Assembly, is saying the time has come for a woman to lead the UN. Our choice will send a powerful message about who we are and whether we truly serve all the peoples of the world. One might wonder how in 80 years not one single woman has ever served as the Secretary General. Gutierrez's successor won't be determined until June at the earliest.
