One of the biggest names in American right-wing political circles is dead. 31-year-old Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck during a university speaking event in Utah. Kirk had a huge following on social media and helped U.S. President Donald Trump connect with young people.

Katie Simpson reports. U.S. President Donald Trump is the one that made the announcement that Charlie Kirk has died. Graphic video circulating online captured the moment he was shot and it shows he was hit by a single bullet in the neck. The conservative activist was speaking from under a tent on the law. at Utah Valley University. Thousands of people had gathered to see this stop on his American comeback tour. The event was about 20 minutes into it when the shot was fired, sending the crowd running and screaming for cover.

Kirk was rushed to a nearby trauma center by his own personal security team. There has been immediate condemnation of this shooting across the political spectrum from U.S. President Donald Trump to members of his cabinet, even to prominent Democrats. Gavin Newsom, the Democratic Governor of California, called the attack on Kirk, disgusting, vile, and reprehensible. Katie Simpson, CBC News, Washington. Tonight, authorities in Utah say they're still looking for a person of interest.

Another man was questioned earlier, but released. One toddler is dead and seven others injured, including one in serious condition, after a vehicle drove into a daycare in Richmond Hill north of Toronto. A man in his 70s was arrested at the scene. Brittany Ballet reports. Police say an SUV crashed into the front. front window, 96 children were inside the building at the time. Officers were called to First Roots Early Education Academy around 3 p.m. The crash sending seven kids ranging from

one and a half to three years old plus three staff members to hospital. Unfortunately, I'm sad to announce that a one and a half year old boy has since been pronounced deceased. Another child remains in serious condition and the remaining children and staff remain in non-life-threatening condition. It is still early investigation, but I can tell you that a man in his 70s has since been arrested in relation to this incident. Police say no charges have been laid against him at this time. Investigators say he was behind the wheel in the parking lot moments before the crash and that according to what witnesses are reporting, the crash does not appear to be deliberate. It's still unknown what caused him to drive into the daycare. His vehicle appears to have gone through two

classrooms and was completely stuck inside the building. ABC News, Richmond Hill. Members of BC's Filipino community are relieved the man accused in the Lapu-Lapu-Lapu-Day tragedy has been deemed fit to stand trial. Kaiji Adam Lowe is accused of driving his vehicle into a crowd at the festival last April. A judge ruled that Lowe meets the legal test to prove mental fitness. He's capable of understanding the nature and consequences of a trial. Lowe is charged with 11 counts of second-degree murder and is now facing 31 attempted murder charges.
