Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled his first list of big nation-building projects today
that Ottawa will fast track for approvals.
The projects are aimed at boosting the Canadian economy
as it grapples with the Trump trade war.

We used to build big things in this country.
It's time to get back at it.
Prime Minister Mark Carney,
promising to boost the slowing Canadian economy
with five major infrastructure and energy projects across the country.
We will build with Canadian steel, Canadian lumber, Canadian aluminum.
Kearney's initial list includes the second phase of LNG Canada
in northern British Columbia, a new nuclear project in southern Ontario,
a copper and zinc mine in east central Saskatchewan,
along with the expansions to the port of Montreal,

The projects are already quite advanced and have gone through Indigenous consultation.

The man accused in a deadly crash at a daycare center north of Toronto.
has been released on bail. An 18-month-old child was killed when the suspect in his 70s
drove his car into the building in Richmond Hill. The second child is in critical condition
in hospital. Five more children and three staff members were also injured. The man's facing one
charge of dangerous driving causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily
harm. His bail conditions include an order that he not drive any motor vehicles. Calgary police
have charged a man for tunneling into the apartment above his. They allege he broke through his
own ceiling to gain access to the home of his upstairs neighbor. Anne-Marie Tricky has details.
On September 5th, police in Calgary responded to reports of a break and enter. The victim in question
had been away from her residence. She returned to discover a large hole in her floor, despite the
door being locked. She says she was experiencing ongoing issues with a downstairs neighbor,
which had intensified in recent weeks. Investigators believed that neighbor had broken into
his ceiling and created a large hole between his suite and his upstairs neighbor's
residence. Police have taken 46-year-old Ben Edward Mays into custody.
Mays has been charged with one count of break and enter with intent to commit criminal
harassment, one count of mischief to property over $5,000 and two counts of disobeying
a court order. Inspector Keith Hurley of Calgary Police has called this incident a deeply
disturbing violation of personal space. Mays is set to appear in court Friday.

is a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty, and an inspiration to millions and millions of
people. U.S. President Donald Trump says he is posthumously awarding a presidential medal of
freedom to conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The high-profile commentator and close Trump
ally was fatally shot while speaking at the university in Utah yesterday. A manhunt for the
suspect is still underway. Bo Mason is commissioner of Utah's department of public safety.
Suspect blended in well with a college institution. That individual appears to be of college age. We are confident in our abilities to track that individual.
Authorities have recovered a high-powered rifle in a wooded area where they believe the suspect fled. The FBI's also released photos of a person of interest and announced a $100,000 award for information leading to the killer's arrest.
And Belarus has freed 52 political prisoners.
In exchange, the U.S. announced it was lifting some sanctions on the country's national airline.
Belarus is a close ally of Russia.
It has been repeatedly slapsed with Western sanctions for cracking down on human rights
and for supporting Moscow's war on Ukraine.
Over the past year, it has freed some of the hundreds of political prisoners held in its jails
in order to mend ties with the West.
And that is your world this hour.
