Political reaction is coming in after Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled his first list of big nation building projects.
He's named five energy and infrastructure projects set to be fast-tracked and promised a second list by mid-November.
Olivia Stefanovic reports.
Well, I can tell you that when I looked at the first five projects, I thought finally they get it.
Praise from one of the federal government's staunchest critics, Alberta Premier Daniel Smith,
even though Prime Minister Mark Carney didn't include an oil pipeline in his first set of major project recommendations.
And I would just ask people to be patient.
So we're in a really exciting period where we have a great window of opportunity open.
Manitoba Premier Wab Canoe doesn't have a project on the initial list,
but upgrades to the Port of Churchill and his province are on a second list up for consideration.
On the other hand, Conservative leader Pierre Pollyev says Kearney is moving too slow.
This is a bet.
Carney says that second batch of major projects will be announced by the Grey Cup in mid-November.
He expects the first five projects to generate more than $60 billion.

The National Hockey League says five Canadian players acquitted of sexual assault can play again.
The professional status of Dylan Dubay, Cal Foot, Alex Formington, Carter Hart, and Michael McLeod had been up in the air.
They were suspended from the NHL during legal proceedings, but all were found not guilty earlier this summer in connection to a
incident dating back to 2018. The NHL says after careful evaluation, the players will be eligible
to sign contracts with teams on October 15th and begin play by December 1st. The suspect in a
deadly crash at a daycare center north of Toronto has been released on bail. A vehicle crashed
into the building yesterday, killing a toddler and leaving a second child in critical condition.
Idle Musa has the latest. Outside First Roots Early Education Academy, a make-shirt
Memorial is growing.
NSUV crashed into the daycare yesterday,
killing a one and a half year old boy
and injuring six other children.
I think there should be barriers.
Local resident Ruth Breenas came to the site this morning
to lay flowers.
There should be gates.
There should be security.
Emerson Bekirovsky says he feels the pain
the victims are going through.
My daughter goes to the school and she's been here
since she was 18 months and
thankfully she's okay.
My wife picked her up yesterday and she's thankfully doing well and at home.
A 70-year-old man was charged with one count of dangerous operation causing death
and two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm.
He was granted bail at a court hearing this morning
and one of the conditions he must follow is not operating a motor vehicle.
Idlemusa, CBC News, Toronto.
Brazil's former president, Jaya Bolsonaro, has been convicted of plotting a coup to stay in power.
The majority of a five-member panel of the nation's Supreme Court also found him guilty of being
part of an armed criminal organization.
The populist leader had been accused of attempting to overturn the 2022 presidential elections
that he lost to Lula de Silva.
Bolsonaro denies his involvement in this plot and calls the court case a witch hunt.
And Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed off on a controversial plan to expand settlements
in the occupied West Bank.
The so-called E-1 project will cut off East Jerusalem from other Palestinian lands.
Netanyahu, saying there will never be a Palestinian state.
The expansion would create a circle of Israeli settlements around East Jerusalem,
closing off the possibility of their ever being a contiguous Palestinian state
with its capital in East Jerusalem.
Most of the international community considered Israeli settlements in the West.
Bank illegal under international law.
And that is the world this hour.
