Residents in Gaza City are inspecting the damage after another night of Israeli airstrikes and thousands are trying to get out after the Israeli army ordered them to leave immediately.
Starting point is 00:00:43 But many Palestinians say there is no safe place left to go. Dominic Volitis has more. Unverified footage circulating online appears to show the aftermath of the strike on a UN school sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza City. This morning, two other similar facilities were also reportedly bombed, not long after a forced evacuation threat was issued by the Israeli army. Local health authorities in the Gaza Strip say at least 40 Palestinians were killed yesterday alone, most of them in Gaza City, where many residents are staying put, defying Israeli orders to leave. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has met with Qatar's Prime Minister, after an Israeli air strike targeted Hamas leaders in Doha.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Trump reportedly expressed displeasure with the attack. Israel is pushing ahead with its plan to take control of Gaza City, with its army targeting more than 500 sites this week. Dominic Volaitis for CBC News, Bristol, England. In London today. Scuffles broke out between police and thousands. Thousands of anti-immigration protesters, over 100,000 people took to the streets holding English flags
Starting point is 00:02:03 and demonstrations organized by anti-immigrant and anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson. Meanwhile, Anti-Bushche! Anti-Bushche! About 5,000 people took part in counter-protests near that same rally, with authorities laboring to keep the two groups far apart. British police say they stepped in multiple times when protesters attempted to break through and reach opposing groups.
Starting point is 00:02:30 U.S. President Donald Trump says he's ready to put more pressure on Russia to stop its assault on Ukraine, but he has conditions. He wants all NATO countries to stop buying Russian oil and to impose steep tariffs on China. Philip Lyshanik reports. Friday on Fox and Friends, Trump previews the ultimatum he posted to social media Saturday. What is clamping down on Vladimir Putin? Well, it would be hitting very hard on with sanctioned. and having to do with oil and tariffs also.
Starting point is 00:03:00 But first, he wants all NATO allies to agree to stop buying Russian oil and implement 50 to 100% tariffs on China. McGill University's Julian Karagestian is a former international trade advisor to the Canadian government. He says there are opportunities for Canada to help Europe replace Russian oil, but also major downsides. Maybe we'd benefit in energy markets, But I think we would lose more, much more, by cutting ourselves off from China and India.
Starting point is 00:03:30 He says NATO member Turkey is the third largest buyer of Russian oil products after China and India and is unlikely to follow Trump's ultimatum. Philip Ashanox, CBC News, Toronto. Ontario mayors are pushing back against Premier Doug Ford's plans to get rid of automated speed cameras. Earlier this week, Ford called the cameras a tax grab and said if municipalities don't get rid of them, the province will. That prompted the Association of Municipalities of Ontario to write an open letter. In it, they cited a recent study that found that the cameras work, resulting in 45% speed reductions in school zones. Here's Toronto Mayor, Olivia Chow. We're slowing those cars that are speeding
Starting point is 00:04:11 illegally. Because of this speed camera, we are lowering the death of pedestrian and cyclists, the most vulnerable users, road users, which are children and seniors. The numbers this year has dropped. Not that much, but it's dropped because people are driving slower. The Association of Municipalities of Ontario also says revenues from the automated cameras are used for road safety improvements. And that is your world this hour.
