Police arrested at least seven people
as protesters for and against immigration
clashed in the downtown Toronto Park today.
A group called Canada First
organized a rally at Christy Pitts Park,
an anti-racism activist held a counter-protest.
Andreanne Williams has more.
Much less tense that it was a few hours before
when there was a lot of police presence.
At some point, the police having to separate both groups
because there were a lot of verbal alterations.
physical altercations, and it was pretty tense, but the situation has calmed down.
I was able to talk to the organizer of that protest, organized by a movement called Canada
First.
For the longest time over the last liberal decade, we've had Justin Trudeau with his open border
policies allowing people from all over the world come to our country.
Look at the strain on our health care.
So the people here around me are very much opposed to that Canada first movement.
They're here to support immigration, support.
The immigrants, here's what they had to say.
We think that that is much hurt on the people who are already traumatized, victimized, and broken.
They are saying they are worried about a resurgence of political violence,
and that's something that we've heard on both sides, counter-protesters and protesters.
Andreanne Williams reporting.
In Phoenix, Arizona, the widow of Charlie Kirk is speaking publicly for the first time since his fatal shooting.
The evildoers responsible for my husband's assassination.
have no idea what they have done.
Erica Kirk praised first responders, the U.S. President and Vice President, and her husband.
Charlie Kirk was an ardent supporter of Donald Trump and his MAGA agenda,
and his wife is vowing to continue his work.
You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife.
The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry.
To everyone listening tonight across America, the movement,
husband built will not die.
Kirk says her husband's organization
Turning Point USA will continue
its tours of university and
college campuses.
A University of Toronto professor has
been placed on leave after posting a comment
about the killing of Charlie Kirk.
Screenshots of Ruth Marshall's
ex-account show a post on Wednesday
which says, quote,
shooting is honestly too good for so many of
you fascist expletives.
The University of Toronto says it took immediate
action after learning about the post.
The CBC reached out to Marshall, but hasn't heard back.

Tennis Canada chose to hold the matches without spectators citing safety concerns.
But that decision's also being questioned, a security agencies deny giving that advice.
Juliana Grillo has more.
Three local and national authorities are denying they were part of Tennis Canada's decision
to hold a Canada-Israel Davis Cup matches without spectators this weekend in Halifax.
On Tuesday, Tennis Canada announced fans would not be allowed into the Scotia Bank Center

when asked which agencies were referred to in the statement.
A spokesperson for Tennis Canada pointed to Halifax Regional Police, the RCMP,
and Canada's National Intelligence Service ceases.
But all three told CBC News via email they were not consulted.
Tennis Canada declined an interview and said the organization had received credible information from multiple sources.
But the spokesperson did not reveal where the information came from.
