Following a Trump administration threat that took late-night host Jimmy Kimmel off the air, Donald Trump now says TV networks that are against. him could face retribution. Paul Hunter has the latest reaction from Washington. In case you missed it, here's Kimmel in his opening monologue Monday.
Starting point is 00:00:39 We hit some new lows over the weekend with the Maga Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. That framing of the fallout from the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk led to a group that owns some 200 U.S. TV stations saying they'd stop airing Kimmel. In his show tonight, Colbert speaks about Kimmel. Here's a clip as he first references the FCC's Brendan Carr. This may seem bad, but Carr was quick to reassure everyone posting,
Starting point is 00:01:12 while this may be an unprecedented decision, it is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community values. Well, you know what my community values are, Buster? Freedom of speech. Stephen Colbert tonight on the Jimmy Kimmel situation. Colbert also calling the whole thing blatant censorship. Prime Minister Mark Carney is in Mexico for a short visit. countries will work toward a strategic partnership that will cover trade, and culture, security, and emergency preparedness. Standing beside Mexican President Claudia Shanebaum, Carney stressed the importance of working together as the North American trade partnership faces the turbulence caused by Donald Trump.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Prime Minister Mark Carney has appointed David Lamedi as Canada's next ambassador to the U.N. Lamedi is a former Justice Minister and, until recently, Carney's principal secretary. He will replace former liberal leader, Bomb Ray, who's held the role, since 2020. Alberta has charged five people after an extensive investigation into poaching and illegal trafficking. Among them is an American fugitive. They face multiple charges related to killing eagles on First Nations land in the province. Anne Marie Tricky reports. Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services has charged five individuals with a combined 34 charges under the Alberta Wildlife Act and nine charges under the criminal code, including
Starting point is 00:02:52 hunting wildlife for which there is no open season and unlawful possession and trafficking of wildlife. The investigations resulted in some of the accused selling bald eagle feather headdress and black bear claw necklaces to undercover officers. Search warrants also uncovered multiple freshly removed eagle feet with talons and feathers. The Alberta government classifies bald eagles
Starting point is 00:03:13 as a sensitive species and according to Colin Weir of the Alberta Birds of Prey Nature Center, they must be protected. Fish and wildlife are to be commended for keeping an eye on poaching incidents, like what just happened. In a statement, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services, Mike Ellis, said that poaching is a crime that robs Alberta of its wildlife. Anne-Marie Tricky, CBC News, Calgary.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Donald Trump has wrapped up his two-day visit to the UK. Before leaving, he and British Prime Minister Kier Starrmer signed some major business deals. They also sidesteps several thorny issues that have strained their transatlantic relationship. Chris Brown reports. Confronting the media was the big test of the visit. For two leaders who differ on. key issues, notably the war in Gaza. Starmer has condemned Israel's invasion of Gaza City
Starting point is 00:03:59 and says he plans to recognize a Palestinian state next week. We absolutely agree on the need for peace and a roadmap because the situation in Gaza is intolerable. Trump, who says he's the greatest friend Israel has ever had, rejects a Palestinian state. I have a disagreement with the Prime Minister on that score. On Ukraine, Trump's friendly relationship with Russia, as Vladimir Putin is another contentious point.
Starting point is 00:04:25 He's let me down. He's really let me down. But if that's so, why not hit Russia with much harder sanctions?
