It was easy. I called and spoke with a credit counselor right away. They asked me about my debt, salary, and regular expenses. Gave me a few options and helped me along the way. You had a ton of debt and you're saying credit counseling society helped with all of it? Yep, and now I can sleep better at night. Right on! When debt's got you, you've got us. Starting point is 00:01:08 Thousands of Israelis rally in Jerusalem for an end to the military operation in Gaza. Protester Emmanuel Welland says the army's plan to conquer the enclave will get the hostages killed. And the war released the hostages, stop the ethnic cleansing in Gaza. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand says the dire situation, in Gaza is the reason Canada and its international partners are formally recognizing the state of Palestine. But Aden says recognition is just the first step. For normalized relations between the two sides to begin, the remaining 48 hostages must be released, Hamas must be disarmed, and have no role in the future governance of Palestine. Normalization is completely
Starting point is 00:01:52 different from recognition. Normalization involves increases in diplomatic relationships. Israel condemned the move saying recognition is rewarding Hamas for the October 7th attacks. Philip Lyshanock, CBC News, Toronto. Reaction in the Middle East is mixed. Many are wary about whether the recognition of a Palestinian state will make any difference to what is happening in the region. The CBC, Sasha Petrusik, reports from Ramallah. There's a lot of mixed feelings here. People, many of them, think that this is too little, too late, that the rest of of the world, if they were going to make a symbolic statement like this, should have done it long ago, and that compared to the very concrete support that most of the West is giving to Israel
Starting point is 00:02:41 in terms of arms shipments and especially money from the United States, that this is really very, very little. But the feelings are mixed, and some do think that this is at least a good start. Oh, for sure, it does make different, because we need to have two-state solutions. That's it. It's over. And other than saying words, I think there should be an actual action. Well, the Israeli government has put out a lot of threats to the West, basically saying that this is a reward for terrorism. If you recognize a Palestinian state, they will be encouraged to repeat what happened on October 7th. And it will not bring peace.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Sasha Petrissik, CBC News, Ramallah. In New Hampshire. We heard what sounded like several balloons being popped. and we all began running in different directions. Starting point is 00:03:45 At this point in time, there's no further threat to the public. So that's what we stated in the press release and we feel confident repeating right now. Again, there was an erroneous statement. there were two shooters. It's believed there's only one shooter and we have a person of interest who has been detained and there's no threat to the general public.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Investigators say the shooting took place as the bride and groom took to the dance floor. A male suspect is in custody now charged with second degree murder. Police say the motive is still unclear. Canada has won another medal at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Canada, USA battling for gold.

The men's 4 by 100 relay team, the defending Olympic gold medal champions, fell just short to the U.S., taking the silver, finishing 0.26 seconds behind the Americans. The Canadian team's time was a season best. Earlier, the Canadian women's 4 by 100 meter relay team placed 7th in their final. And that is your world this hour. For CBC News, I'm Claude Fagig.
