It's a major shift in policy, one that the Carney government says is necessary to keep the possibility of a two-state solution alive. Bob Ray, the Canadian ambassador to the UN, echoed some of those sentiments. I think it's important for us to make it clear to everyone, including including, frankly, the government of Israel, that we do not think that annexation or any other possible political path is a route that's sustainable or in the best interest of Israel or
Starting point is 00:01:11 of anybody else. So that's the reasoning behind why we've taken this decision. The Prime Minister's Office said in a statement that this move in no way legitimizes terrorism. Israeli officials say Hamas is being rewarded for its October 7 attacks. Canada made that announcement alongside the UK and Australia. head of United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York this week. Kier Starrmer is Britain's Prime Minister. We are acting to keep alive the possibility of peace and a two-state solution. That means a safe and secure Israel alongside a viable Palestinian state.
Starting point is 00:01:47 At the moment, we have neither. The three join more than 140 UN member nations who have already recognized the Palestinian state. Tens of thousands have gathered in Glendale, Arizona, for a memorial service for murdered mega activist Charlie Kirk. And with the U.S. President expected to attend, security is tight. Steve Futterman has more from the stadium. People began showing up around midnight, seven hours before the doors to the stadium opened. By 4 a.m., there were huge traffic jams.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Some, like this woman, chose to park their cars more than a kilometer away and walk. She got to the stadium around 5 o'clock. Now we come because it's time to rise up. How have you been impacted by his death? Horribly. Many people are grieving. Security, of course, is extremely tight. Everyone's been forced to go through a magnetometer. Law enforcement is very visible, and so is Charlie Kirk.
Starting point is 00:02:44 The stadium concourse is full of pictures of Kirk. Posters of him have been handed out, and he's often shown on the video board. Starting point is 00:03:14 A man describes the scene after a gunman opened fire during a wedding at a country club in Nashua. At least one person was killed, several others were wounded. Investigators say the shoot. Shooting took place as the bride and groom took to the dance floor. A male suspect is in custody, charged with second-degree murder. Police say the motive is still unclear. NATO's North Atlantic Council will meet early this week to discuss Russia's violation of Estonian airspace. Estonia says three Russian military jets entered its airspace without permission on Friday
Starting point is 00:03:46 and stayed for a total of 12 minutes before they were forced to withdraw. Some of Europe's biggest airports are still struggling to recover from yesterday. Saturday's cyber attack. Check-in and boarding systems at airports in London, Berlin, and Brussels were all knocked off line. Disruptions in London and Berlin have eased, but they are still working to get passengers re-booked there, while the Brussels airport says it still doesn't have a functioning system, and it's asked airlines to cancel some flights for Monday. And Canada has won another medal at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Canada, USA, battling for gold. It's USA. No one. Lyles is going to take the gold. It's silver for Canada. The men's 4 by 100 relay team members are defending the defending Olympic gold medal champions, but they fell just short to the U.S., taking the silver after finishing 0.2 seconds, 2.6 seconds behind the Americans.
