It is a fact at this point. Toronto audiences just know what's up.
We often predict which new movies will end up becoming mega hits.
We built the buzz for movies like The Princess Bride and Slumdung Millionaire.
Both of those movies were initially underestimated.
And we know that the TIF People's Choice Award is a great predictor for the Oscars.
So this year, you know that you should be betting on Hamnet from director Chloe Zhao.
So even if you miss the Toronto International Film Festival this year,
you can catch it with commotion and me, Alameen, Abdu Mahmoud, on our special series, TIF and 12.
Find commotion wherever you get your podcasts.
From CBC News, the world this hour.
I'm Kate McGilfrey.
In Arizona today, a memorial for murdered right-wing activist Charlie Kirk
is featuring a lineup of high-profile mega-conservatives.
The president's deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller,
gave a fire and brimstone speech,
attacking those opposed to the Trump agenda.
We stand for what is good, what is virtuous, what is noble.
And to those trying to incite violence against us, you have nothing. You are nothing.
You are wickedness. You are jealousy. You are envy. You are hatred. You are nothing.
Miller urged Kirk's followers to press on with his mission, saying they were saving American civilization.
President Donald Trump is also expected to speak at this service. Tens of thousands of people have filled the Glendale Arizona Stadium for the event.
As of today, Canada officially recognizes the state of Palestine.
The Carney government says it's doing it to preserve the possibility of a two-state solution,
though that has provoked fury from Israel.
Benjamin Lopez-Steven has more.
Finally, I think the government has decided that it's a necessary moment.
The government says it's necessary that Canada officially recognize the state of Palestine.
According to Bob Ray, Canada's UN ambassador, their goal is to keep the two-state solution alive
and prevent Israel from taking over Gaza.
We do not think that annexation or any other possible political path is a route that's sustainable
or in the best interest of Israel or of anybody else.
But there are conditions.
The Palestinian Authority must disarm and hold elections next year, and Hamas can play no role.
Stephen Brown is the CEO of the Canadian Council of Muslims.
He says it's a historic day, but a bittersweet feeling.
We're seeing Palestinians that, especially in Gaza, are continuing to face,
extremely difficult situations, especially when it comes to starvation.
The Israeli embassy in Ottawa says it's deeply disappointed by the decision
and that Canada is rewarding Hamas and its sympathizers.

Alberta's Premier says her use of the notwithstanding clause
to override parts of the charter isn't set in stone.
She says allegations outlined in a memo leaked to Radio Canada
doesn't necessarily mean they will resort to the use of this rare provision
for three bills that impact.
transgender people. Stephanie Cramm has more.
First of all, it's a leaked memo, and so they're trying to make a media story out of it.
Premier Daniel Smith is pushing back against allegations her government will use the notwithstanding
clause. The leaked memo says the province will integrate the clause into legislation impacting
transgender people, which includes limiting gender affirming health care, such as the use
of puberty blockers. We shouldn't be doing medical interventions on children that will sterilize
them. According to the Mayo Clinic, puberty blockers,
walkers do not make permanent changes. And parent Eldika Simpson says the clause will also target
legislation that will ban her non-binary child from playing on female sports teams.
I can't imagine being a child or a youth who wakes up hearing that their government are prepared to say
that your rights are not protected. The memo says the notwithstanding clause will also be used on a third
bill on students changing their names or pronouns. Stephanie Cram, CBC News, Edmonton.
There is criticism of Donald Trump.
new $100,000 fee on H-1B work visas.
That's a program used to attract highly skilled workers.
Analyst and founder of Blue Ocean Advisors, Kent Kettle, says this new policy might help China
pull ahead of the U.S. in the artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies.
You're going to see a long-term impact.
It's not going to be something that happens in the next year.
But over a number of years, I think you are going to see a negative impact in the U.S.
and a net positive for China.
Critics also say it will affect America's ability to attract international students.
And finally, the Philadelphia Flyers, legendary goalie Bernie Parin, has died.
Parin led Philly to their only two Stanley Cup championships in 1974 and 1975.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1984, and he was 80 years old.
And that is Your World This Hour.
For CBC News, I'm Kate McGilver.
Thank you.
