Canada now officially recognizes a Palestinian state until, now Canada's policy was to wait for a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians, but the Karni government decided to stop waiting. The CBC's Sasha Petrissik has Palestinian reaction.

Many Palestinians feel they've heard these sentiments before without the formal recognition, of course. But for others, this brings a little light into two very dark years, and this is what they had to say to me. Oh, for sure, it does make different, because we need to have two states Other than saying words, I think there should be actual actions. Now, these people are in the occupied West Bank, where there has been a lot of violence. Still, though, it's nothing like what Palestinians in Gaza have endured. We asked them what they thought of this recognition by Western countries as well. They recognize Palestine and they still send weapons to Israel, says one man called Salon Nasser.

In the government halls of the Palestinian authority, there is more optimism. But I have to tell you, if there's one thing people are happy about, it's that they feel seen, Sasha Petrissik, CBC News, Jerusalem. Conservative leader Pierre Polyev says Prime Minister Carney is recognizing the Hamas state in another effort to distract his record of rampant crime, costs, debt, immigration, and job loss. our world is more unsafe. Our country is less respected by our allies. And once again, a small but vocal minority here at home notches another win on behalf of the terrorists and the Jew haters. Lanceman says the Palestinian militant group Hamas is still holding Israeli hostages in Gaza and the recognition of a Palestinian state vindicates Hamas' violence. In the U.S., massive crowds gathered under intense security in Arizona

for the memorial of Charlie Kirk. U.S. President Donald Trump was among those paying tribute to the conservative activists, and he thanked Canadian supporters of Charlie Kirk. In Calgary, Canada thousands gathered at City Hall to sing the American National Anthem and raise up posters with the name. Charlie Kirk. Kirk was shot and killed while speaking on a university campus on September 10th. The CBC's Katie Simpson reports from Arizona, where the memorial was held.
