Too many students are packed into overcrowded classrooms in Ontario schools,
and it's hurting their ability to learn.
But instead of helping our kids,
the Ford government is playing politics,
taking over school boards and silencing local voices.
It shouldn't be this way.
Tell the Ford government to get serious about tackling overcrowded classrooms
because smaller classes would make a big difference for our kids.

from cbc news it's the world this hour i'm joe cummings
we go first to new york where in a long rambling address to the u.n general assembly
u.s president donald trump today is touching on a range of issues including the two-state
solution to the israeli-palestinian conflict now as if to encourage
continued conflict. Some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state.
The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities. This would be a reward
for these horrible atrocities, including October 7. And in a speech that still continues,
he moves from the Middle East to criticizing the United Nations for the global migration,
not only is the UN not solving the problems it should too often it's actually creating new problems for us to solve the best example is the number one political issue of our time the crisis of uncontrolled migration it's uncontrolled
not criticism of the UN continues on another front what is the purpose of the United Nations the UN is such tremendous potential I've always said it but it's not even
been coming close to living up to that potential. For the most part, at least for now,
all they seem to do is write a really strongly worded letter and then never follow that
letter up. It's empty words and empty words don't solve war. And among other issues, Trump has
also claimed that climate change is a hoax. As for Prime Minister Mark Carney at the UN today,
He is in attendance, and later he's scheduled to co-chair an event with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
It focuses on the Ukrainian children who have been abducted by Russia over the course of the Russian invasion.
Now, to Ottawa, where the federal government is rolling out the details today of its long-awaited gun buyback program.
But it comes after public safety minister, Gary Anna Sangri, was caught on tape making some controversial comments about the initiative.
Janice McGregor has the details.
The audio was posted on social media yesterday
by a lobbyist for the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights
in the conversation with an unknown firearms owner
recorded without the minister's knowledge.
In And Sangary, it appears to admit
that the government will struggle to enforce its own program.
The minister suggests the funds available
to compensate gun owners are going to be capped.
He admits that the amounts offered for some firearms
fall short of their value.
He even seems to suggest
extraordinarily that he'd personally cover the difference or post-bail for this constituent
if he's arrested for not complying.
The potential cost originally estimated by the Parliamentary Budget Officer to be in the
neighborhood of three quarters of a billion dollars, that's been controversial from the start
and also shifted each time the government adjusts what firearms would fall under this ban.

Both the World Health Organization and the European Medicines Agency,
are saying today that there is no evidence linking Tylenol to autism.
U.S. President Trump announced yesterday that that link does exist, but a WHO spokesperson calls the evidence inconsistent.
And EMA officials are saying Tylenol can be used when needed during pregnancy.
But it does suggest using the lowest effective dose possible.
There is joy again in TV land.
Jimmy Kemmel is back on the air.
Our long national late nightmare is over.
because Disney announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live will return to air.
That is Stephen Colbert at CBS celebrating the return of his competitor, Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Kimmel's suspension lasted less than a week.
Kimmel was suspended for comments he made in wake of Charlie Kirk's murder.
But while he's back, not every ABC station will be carrying his show.
More than 35 ABC affiliates say they have no intention of airing Kimmel's return.
And that is the world this hour.
For CBC News, I'm Joe Cummings.
