Starting point is 00:00:39 We're all here to celebrate today. That is the celebration at an ostrich farm in southeastern BC. The Supreme Court of Canada has granted a stay in the destruction of some 400 birds. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency ordered their deaths after avian flu was detected in that flock last December. The owners of universal ostrich farms have been fighting the order ever since the Food Inspection Agency has until next Friday to respond. The RCMP has charged a Royal Bank of Canada employee after he allegedly accessed Prime Minister Mark Carney's banking records. They say Ibrahim El Hakim worked at an Ottawa branch and did it as part of a criminal plot and involved creating fake bank profiles and obtaining lines of credit for others, all in exchange for cash.
Starting point is 00:01:27 El Hakeem was arrested in July. Police say neither Carney's private information nor the country's national security have been put at risk. The FBI says it believes that immigration enforcement officers were the target of a shooting in Texas today. A gunman killed one person and injured two others outside of an ICE facility in Dallas. Willie Lowry has the latest. The FBI is calling it targeted violence. Police say the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Bullets found near the suspect's body reveal a possible motive.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Joe Rothrock is the FBI special agent in charge of the Dallas field office. Early evidence that we've seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that are anti-ice in nature. Rothrock says it's not the first time ICE has been targeted. Trump administration officials have deplored the use of violence against agents in recent months. Republican Senator Ted Cruz called for an end to all violence. This needs to stop.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Violence is wrong. Politically motivated violence is wrong. Law enforcement officers did not disclose the identity of the victims, though they made clear that no officers were injured. Willie Lowry, CBC News, Washington. Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky used the UN podium to appeal for more weapons to fight Russia. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly,
Starting point is 00:02:52 Zelensky again warned that Vladimir Putin won't stop by Ukraine. And at Cunningham reports. If a nation wants peace, it still has to work on weapons. Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky addressing the UN General Assembly, including Russian representatives. Zelensky's focus on his country's need for weapons to fight Russia, a deliberate message, including to the U.S. There are no security guarantees except France and weapons.
Starting point is 00:03:22 He warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin, would go further and deeper into Europe and it would be cheaper for the world to stop him now than to protect their ports and ships later. We are now living through the most destructive arms race in human history. Selensky says he had a good meeting with the US President Donald Trump
Starting point is 00:03:43 and values Washington's import. Selensky concluded, Don't stay silent while Russia keeps dragging this war on. The Ukrainian president said people are waiting for action. Anna Cunningham, CBC News, London. And four astronauts bound for the moon met with the press today. NASA says it's planning its 10-day Artemis II mission for next year. It's been 50 years since any country has made the trip to the moon.
Starting point is 00:04:10 The mission will be a test to prepare for a future moon landing, which will be called Artemis 3. And for this mission, one of the crew members for the first time ever is a Canadian, Jeremy Hanson. A day like this, it puts things in a perspective for you. And I took a moment to kind of step back and think about, wow, what an extraordinary privilege it is to train with my fellow crewmates here to go on this mission. The mission could commence as soon as February 26. The Artemis 2 crew will circle the moon to get a view of its far side, flying further into space than anyone has been before. And that is your world this hour.
