I'm Kate McGilfrey. The RCMP has charged a bank employee after he allegedly accessed Prime Minister Mark Carney's banking profile as part of a criminal plot. The man worked at an RBC branch in Ottawa and was arrested in July.

Finance Minister Francois-Ferl-Philippe Champagne reacting with caution to the news. And it applies to all Canadians. As first reported by La Prasse and The Journal de Morial, the RCMP have arrested a 23-year-old Royal Bank of Canada employee for fraudulently accessing the profile of Prime Minister Mark Carney. They say Ibrahim El-Hakim did it as part of a criminal plot,
Starting point is 00:01:13 creating fake bank profiles and obtaining lines of credit for others in exchange for cash. None of the charges have been proven in court. The bank says it's cooperating with authorities and El-Hakim is no longer employed by the RBC, One other account, police say he accessed, belonged to Justin Trudeau. It's unclear if that's the former Prime Minister or someone with the same name. Police say Carney's private info where the country's national security have not been put at risk. Starting point is 00:01:48 Cheers at an ostrich farm in southeastern BC. The Supreme Court of Canada has granted a stay in the destruction of some 400 births. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency ordered their deaths. That's after avian flu was detected in the flock last December. The owners of Universal Ostrich Farms have been fighting that order ever since. The Food Inspection Agency has until next Friday to respond. Mark Carney is defending his public safety minister amid calls to fire Gary Anandesangari. The minister appeared to undercut Ottawa's gun buyback program in a leaked audio recording.
Starting point is 00:02:23 A long time in the making, this program is facing backlash from gun owners and from federal conservatives. David Thurton has more from Ottawa. What the government is doing with the gun registry is putting in place a much more efficient way. Prime Minister Mark Carney's first question period after controversial comments for his public safety minister, Gary Annanda Sangri. In a leaked audio recording, Anandisangery appears to question the effectiveness of the Liberals' gun buyback program for individuals beginning next month as a pilot project in Nova Scotia
Starting point is 00:02:53 and suggests that municipal police forces don't have enough resources to fully implement it. Conservative leader, Pierre Poliyev, zeroed in on those comments. The minister says it's a bad idea, but they're only doing it for political reasons. Why is the Prime Minister putting lives at risk for politics? Hernandez-Angery has since said his comments were made in Jess during a private conversation. Connie said Tuesday he has confidence in the minister who is doing important work. Starting point is 00:03:27 Annawa. The Alberta government says it has struck a tentative deal with the union representing 51,000 of its teachers. The agreement is being reached less than two weeks before teachers were set to strike. No details have been made public yet, and this deal still needs to be ratified by those union members. The province's latest offer included a 12% pay boost over four years and hiring 3,000 more teachers.
Starting point is 00:03:51 And the FBI says a deadly shooting outside of an immigrant. Enforcement Facility in Dallas, Texas is being investigated as a targeted attack. At least one person is dead and two others injured. Officials say the suspected shooter died by self-inflicted gunshot wound. Joe Rothrock is the special agent in charge of the Dallas Field Office. Early evidence that we've seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that are anti-ice in nature. Rothrock says no ICE agents were injured.
