But instead of helping our kids, the Ford government is playing politics, taking over school boards and silencing local voices. It shouldn't be this way. Tell the Ford government to get serious about tackling overcrowded classrooms because smaller classes would make a big difference for our kids.

Meanwhile, the strike action means the mail is not moving, and this concerns Ryan Mitten with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. We know that small businesses are
Starting point is 00:01:09 already facing consequences as a result of the ban on flyers. So for this to potentially stretch into the holiday season, a critical for time for small businesses looking to make the ends meet pay their bills. And we've called for Canada Post to be temporarily deemed an essential service in order to protect the economy and protect small businesses. Canada Post says mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered during the strike, but delivery exemptions will be made for items such as government welfare checks. Prime Minister Mark Carney is in London today, meeting with British Prime Minister Kier Starrmer and the leaders of Australia, Spain and Iceland.
Starting point is 00:01:48 The talks are focusing on trade and mutual defense priorities, along with discussions on the war in Ukraine and Gaza. Speaking of Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to strike a defiant tone today in his address to the United Nations General Assembly. Starting point is 00:02:23 when Netanyahu takes the podium. Virtually every leader speaking so far has condemned Israel's assault on Gaza. On its way to New York, Netanyahu said he plans to respond defiantly to calls for a Palestinian state. The only major leader to take Israel's side has been U.S. President Donald Trump. We spoke with Bibi Netanyahu today, and we spoke to all the leaders in the Middle East. But even he isn't backing Netanyahu unconditionally. Netanyahu's own speech today walks a fine line between pleasing his political base at home and his most important sponsor in the White House. Sasha Petrissik, CBC News, Jerusalem.
Starting point is 00:03:08 It's possible former FBI director James Comey will make a court appearance today. As after being indicted on two charges related to testimony, he gave to Congress in September of 2020, the charges include issuing a false statement and obstruction of justice, linked to an investigation into Russian election interference and Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server. U.S. President Donald Trump is calling the indictment Justice for America, while Comey says he wants his day in court. My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I'm innocent. So let's have a trial and keep the faith. If convicted on the two charges, Comey is facing up to five years in prison.
Starting point is 00:03:51 The Trump White House is rolling out a new round of global tariffs. They include a 25% levy on all heavy-duty trucks imported into the country, a 50% tariff on kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and a 100% levy on pharmaceuticals. The new measures are expected to come into effect as of October 1st. A British court has thrown out a terror-related charge against one of the members of the Irish rap group Kneckap. The charge was laid after the group allegedly displayed a Hezbollah flag
Starting point is 00:04:21 last year during a London concert. The chief magistrate in the case has ruled the legal proceedings had been instituted unlawfully. Britain and Canada are among the countries that have designated Hezbollah a terror organization. And just this month, kneecap canceled an upcoming Canadian tour after a liberal MP claimed on social media, Canada would not be allowing the group into the country. And that is the world this hour.
