In Washington, U.S. Senate Democrats have voted down a Republican bill to keep funding the American government. And that means a shutdown of the U.S. government is now underway, something that hasn't happened in nearly seven years. Chuck Schumer leads the Democratic Party in the U.S. Senate. He blames Republicans. We see now Republicans are plunging America into a shutdown,

rejecting bipartisan talks, pushing a partisan bill. They've got to sit down and negotiate with Democrats to come to a bill that both parties can support. John Barrasso is the Republican whip in the U.S. Senate. He blamed Schumer. Well, the radical wing of the Democrat Party demanded that Chuck Schumer shut down the government and he did that today. What that radical wing had told him to do was work with them through his war room. He had a war room going for the last eight weeks to orchestrate the shutdown. The U.S. government will continue to run with essential. services. Police in Western Quebec have made an arrest in connection with a cold case.

14 years ago, the body of post-secondary student named Valerie Leblanc was found in a wooded area. Now investigators say new techniques helped track down a suspect. Nicole Williams has more, but first a warning. Some listeners may find the details disturbing. It is with great emotion that we announced this news today, says Gatineau Police Service director Simon Fornier. An arrest in connection to the death of 18-year-old Valerie LeBlanc. LeBlanc was a student who had gone missing after her first day of school in whole Quebec back in 2011. Her body found days later in the woods behind the school, badly beaten and burned. A coroner's report found LeBlanc

died from blunt forced trauma to the head. Police have now arrested 51-year-old Stefan Revolveau. of Gatno. He faces one count of first-degree murder. Police are not sharing any more details about the suspect or any possible connection he may have to LeBlanc. Mathieu Guilbeau is Chief Inspector. This is still an ongoing investigation. the size of a mission in Haiti. The goal is to stop the armed gangs that control large parts of Haiti. Mike Waltz is the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. The international community failed to deliver a mission that was fit for purpose. It lacked the scale, scope, and resources needed to take the fight to the gangs and restore a baseline of security in Haiti. Canada has pledged $60 million towards the new security measures.
