The spirit of innovation is deeply ingrained in Canada,
and Google is helping Canadians innovate in ways both big and small,
from mapping accessible spaces so the disabled community can explore with confidence,
to unlocking billions in domestic tourism revenue.
Thousands of Canadian companies are innovating with Google AI.
Innovation is Canada's story. Let's tell it together.

from cbc news it's the world this hour i'm joe cummings in washington an overnight spending deadline has come and gone and the u.s
government has been shut down it means millions of federal employees are no longer being paid that's
everyone from air traffic controllers and national park employees to certain members of the military
and the Republicans are blaming the Democrats.
John Barrasso is the Republican Senate whip.
Well, the radical wing of the Democrat Party demanded that Chuck Schumer shut down the government
and he did that today.
What that radical wing had told him to do was work with them through his war room.
He had a war room going for the last eight weeks to orchestrate the shutdown.
But Democrat Chuck Schumer sees it differently.
We see now Republicans are pleased.
Lunging America into a shutdown, rejecting bipartisan talks, pushing a partisan bill.
They've got to sit down and negotiate with Democrats to come to a bill that both parties can support.
The last shutdown in 2018 lasted 35 days.
It led to many federal workers being forced to use food banks.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is announcing a new energy infrastructure project today.
We don't know any specifics, but for weeks.
Smith has been floating the idea of a new pipeline. That would, in theory, bring Alberta
Bichaman to the BC coast. The Alberta Premier has also been hinting that a key private
proponent will soon be confirmed. As of today, five provinces are increasing their minimum wage.
That's Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, and PEI. Ontario's at the top end,
moving it up to $17.60. Across the country, only Nunavut and Yukon are higher. Alberta is the only
province that hasn't boosted its minimum wage in recent months. It remains at $15 an hour, which is
the lowest in Canada. The federal government is denied a request by marine land to export its
remaining beluga whales. The Ontario theme park was looking to ship a total of 30 whales to an
aquarium in China. But fisheries and oceans minister, Joanne Thompson, says it's not in their
best interest. The Fisheries Act, which is important in guiding the decision, is Claire.
whales do not belong in tanks and captivity for entertainment purposes, and that really was at the
center of the decision. 20 whales have died at marine land since 2019, and those that remain are
the last to be held in captivity in Canada. Another candidate has joined the race for the leadership
of the federal NDP. BC union leader Rob Ashton made it official today and joins three other
candidates all looking to replace the outgoing Jugmeet Singh. It's Edmonton MP Heather McPherson
former journalist Avi Lewis and political activist Eve Angler.
The party's leadership convention is set for March in Winnipeg.
We're being warned about a new online scam gaining popularity across the country.
As we hear now from Yasmin Renea, it's a scam involving the sale of Girl Guide cookies.
They don't seem to have access to any cookies.
They are not associated with our organization.
Diamond Eisinger spokesperson for BC Girl Guide says scammers have baked up a fresh way to steal
money. We are obviously concerned about seeing examples like this. Post from Facebook community groups
in BC and Ontario show people who claim their children are selling the cookies. They ask for
e-transfers up front, but don't deliver the tasty treats. Hello? Would you like to buy a box
to Girl Guide cookies? Cookies are the Girl Guides of Canada's main fundraising tool, helping raise money
for programs, activities, and camp fees. Scammers online today will do
anything for a dishonest dollar.
Cyber security expert David Shipley says there are ways you can protect yourself.
First, pay after delivery.
So make arrangements, get the cookies dropped off by the parents.
And then once you physically have the goods, do the payment then and there.
