Starting point is 00:00:48 jennifer lee has more it's an outcome doctors warned could happen for months the province says a baby who was born prematurely after the mother contracted measles died shortly after birth In a statement, Alberta's Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services, Adriana LaGrange, calls this a heartbreaking loss. LaGrange says children under five, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems are at the highest risk with measles infections. And measles during pregnancy can lead to serious complications, including miscarriage, preterm labor, stillbirth, and congenital infection. The province is urging anyone planning a pregnancy to ensure they have two doses of the vaccine prior to conception, Since measles vaccination is not recommended during pregnancy, 1914 measles cases have been confirmed in the province since March. 152 people have been hospitalized, including 15 who have ended up in the ICU.

British police say the man suspected of carrying out today's deadly attack at a synagogue was a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent. Jihad al-Shamee was shot and killed by officers in Manchester, He's alleged to have killed two people and sent four others to hospital in a car ramming and stabbing attack. Prime Minister Kierre Sturmer says it was an act of hate against the Jewish community. We must be clear. It is a hatred that is rising once again.
Starting point is 00:02:14 And Britain must defeat it once again. The incident happened on the Jewish Holy Day of Yom Kippur. UK authorities say they have stepped up police patrols outside synagogues across the country. Officials have arrested three others. and connected with this incident on suspicion of preparing and instigating acts of terrorism. Families in Indonesia are grieving, fearing their children are dead following the collapse of a school, and nurtured news from search teams that there are no more signs of life in the rubble. The building gave way Monday, killing five people and injuring dozens more.
Starting point is 00:02:53 At least 59 teenagers are still missing. Crews are now using heavy machinery to clear the record. Faulty construction is blamed for the disaster. Researchers have crunched data on the costs of wildfires. Their study found they've quadrupled in frequency with nearly half of the most damaging fires happening in the last decade. And as N.E. Tsing tells us, it calls for communities to adapt and protect themselves. A new study has linked together the dangers for people who live in fire risk areas. With access to a gold mine, a proprietary data, normally only available to insurance and
Starting point is 00:03:28 finance companies, researchers showed how destructive wildfires are affecting people on every continent in areas considered fire-prone and not. John Abatzaglu, professor at the University of California Merced, co-authored the paper. For wildfires in many environments, it's not a question of if a fire is going to happen. It's more about when it's going to happen. Out of 200 of the most destructive and deadly fires in the past 44 years, nearly half happened just in the past decade. That's why today I'm very excited to share that I intend to present a private member's bill aim at addressing the outdated practice of the bi-annual time change. Studies show that one-hour change disrupts circadian rhythms that regulate things like sleep, mood, and appetite, and the U.S. study found a 6% rise in car accidents attributed to sleep disruption.
