Starting point is 00:00:38 Police in Manchester, England, say one of two people killed in Thursday's synagogue attack may have died from police gunfire. They say he was struck as officers fired at the suspect to prevent him from entering the synagogue. One of three people injured was also hit by police bullets. Police are now releasing the names of the two victims who died. They are 53-year-old. Adrian Dolby and 66-year-old Melvin Kravitz. In an address to the nation, Prime Minister
Starting point is 00:01:06 Kier Starrmer assured Jews in the UK that they will be protected. So many Jewish families first came to this country as a place of refuge, fleeing the greatest evil ever inflicted honour people. And Britain welcomed them. Communities like the one attacked in Manchester provided safety, but also the security that comes from a promise, that this is a country that stands up to hatred and that we don't just provide refuge. We provide a home. Authorities say the attacker who was shot dead at the scene was not known to police. Three other people remain in custody in relation to the attack. Demonstrators took to the streets of Rome last night protesting Israel's interception of a Gaza aid flotilla.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Dozens of Italians, including four parliamentarians, are part of the Sumud Flotilla. Unions in Italy have called for a nationwide strike today to protest Israel's actions. The flotilla was stopped yesterday by Israeli vessels about 40 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza. It was hoping to break an Israeli blockade and get humanitarian supplies into the territory. Protesters are being taken to the port city of Astod, according to report. some have already been deported. Britain has a brand new Archbishop of Canterbury, and for the first time in nearly 500 years of history, it's a woman. Sarah Mulali has been chosen as the spiritual leader of the Church of England. Washing feet has shaped my Christian vocation as a nurse,
Starting point is 00:02:47 then a priest, then a bishop. In the apparent chaos which surrounds us, in the midst of such profound global uncertainty. The possibility of healing lies in acts of kindness and love. Malali says she has a big job ahead. The church is divided over the treatment of women and the two SLGBQ plus people. Malali will also have to confront concerns that church leaders haven't done enough to address sexual abuse scandals. Unidentified drone sightings force Munich's airport in Germany to close for a few hours overnight. 17 flights were Kansas. and more than a dozen others were re-rooted. Authorities have not publicly blamed anyone for the Munich drone incident,
