Starting point is 00:00:27 A message from the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario. From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Mike Miles. Hamas has agreed to immediately enter negotiations for the release of hostages. But the militant group did not agree unconditionally to the points outlined in an American peace plan. President Donald Trump welcomes the announcement saying he believes Hamas is ready for a lasting peace. And Israel says tonight it is getting ready to put the Trump plan in motion. Sasha Petrissik has more. There seem to be some positive signals from both Hamas and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Hamas' statement except some key points in Trump's peace plan, like releasing hostages and handing over power. But it also calls for negotiations on significant details like timing. Hamas also says it won't disarm until Israeli troops leave Gaza altogether. Trump's plan demands the reverse for Hamas to disarm. right away. Still, Trump's answer posted on social media suggests he's open to talking. I believe they are ready for lasting peace, he says. We are already in discussions on details to be worked out. He goes on to say that Israel must stop bombing Gaza immediately so that hostages can be released safely and quickly. Starting point is 00:01:57 the four years and two months in prison. The hip-hop mogul had previously been convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Speaking in court, Combs apologized for his past behavior, calling it disgusting, shameful, and sick. The judge said he was unconvinced that Combs wouldn't commit the same crimes if he was released. Canada Post has put out another contract offer for its striking workers, but the new deal looks like the old one offered and rejected months ago.
Starting point is 00:02:26 The corporation says it's bleeding money and must scale back service and jobs. Olivia Stefanovic has more. As the nationwide postal strike enters week two, Canada Post is making a new offer. It includes many of the same terms as its so-called final offers last May, but with some notable differences, including the removal of a signing bonus. We have to put forward offers that we can afford. Canada Post spokesperson John Hamilton says the latest proposal finds a balance between downsizing and saving as many good-paying jobs as possible.
Starting point is 00:03:05 We have to agree that we are in an existential crisis. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers rejects that claim. Jim Galant is a negotiator. The offer that they've given us today is punishment. Galant says the union expected improvements, but instead he calls what's on the table worse than what Canada Post previously offered. Starting point is 00:03:32 for another face-to-face meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. Carney's office says they're going to try and reach a new deal on tariffs and security, a deal that has proven elusive. Tom Perry has more. Thank you very much, everybody. And while the U.S. president has made life miserable for some world leaders who've sat in front of
Starting point is 00:03:57 the cameras with him, he and the Prime Minister appeared to get along. Trump and Carney have been in regular contact ever since, but have not reached a deal to lift or reduce U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminum, autos and lumber. Conservative leader Pierre Pauliev says Carney has let Canadians down. Mr. Carney has had defeat after defeat since he became prime minister. He's made concession after concession. Despite their obvious differences, Pollyev says, he hopes Carney can get a win on tariffs when he goes to Washington. The Prime Minister will be hoping for the same thing, though with Donald Trump, there are never any guarantees. Tom Perry, CBC News, Ottawa. And that is The World This Hour.
