But instead of helping our kids, the Ford government is playing politics, taking over school boards and silencing local voices. It shouldn't be this way. Starting point is 00:01:16 That is correct. That's down the road. But what they've agreed on is significant. Israel says it's getting ready to implement the first part of the Trump plan, the release of hostages by Hamas. The war in Gaza is creating one of Italy's largest protest waves in decades, a general strike Friday in solidarity with Palestinians, and today mass marches across the country. Megan Williams has more from Rome. Protesters in Bologna Friday shout free Palestine, joining in on a general strike for Gaza that shut down roads, railways, and ports throughout Italy for the second time in several weeks. Organizers say some two million people joined in a hundred different demonstrations with high numbers of young people. We want to put pressure on our government
Starting point is 00:02:05 to respect the international conventions, humanitarian law, human rights, says global movement to Gaza protestor organizer Simona Moscarelli. Today, hundreds of thousands are expected to march again. Many underbanners in support of the Global Summit flotilla, the convoy of boats that sailed towards Gaza in an attempt to break Israel's blockade. Italy's Prime Minister, George Maloney, faces pressure after Israeli commandos detained 26 Italian activists. But she's tied recognition of a Palestinian state to hostage releases and Hamas's exit.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Megan Williams, CBC News, Roam. The federal minister in charge of Canada's nation-building projects is keeping his cards close to his chest on Alberta's new pipeline pitch. Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson isn't endorsing Alberta's proposal, opting instead for a wait-and-see approach. Albertans supporting the projects say it could be a big deal for Canada's economy,
Starting point is 00:03:01 but one BC minister argues there's no business case for a pipeline. Host of CBC Radio's The House, Catherine Cullen, has more. It's an extraordinarily important project. Alex Porbe is cheering on Alberta's proposal for a new oil pipeline to the BC coast. He's chair of Sunovus Energy, and he's helping advise the Alberta government on a path for the pipeline. No private company has come forward to say it wants to build, so Alberta's government is putting up $14 million to get the ball rolling.
Starting point is 00:03:31 There isn't a single project that could take place in this country that would remotely create the positive economic and GDP impact of this kind of project would. BC's government sees it differently. BC Energy and Environment Minister Adrian Dix says his province wants to stay focused on real projects, not what he says, are political projects like this one. No route, no plan, no money, no investors,
Starting point is 00:03:57 no one who's ever built a pipeline taking the project on. These are important questions. Alberta's government expects to submit the pipeline proposal to the federal government in the spring. Catherine Cullen, CBC News, Ottawa. Canada's baseball team is getting ready to open their American League division series against the New York Yankees. Go Jays, go. They're ticking it all the way.
Starting point is 00:04:18 We want it all, so we're right behind them. Last time they were good 10 years ago, I was not even 10. The Blue Jays, the Boys of Summer, will be hosting New York today to open the best of five series in their quest for the fall classic. Thanks to an expanded playoff format, it's the first time the two clubs will meet in the postseason. And it's the furthest Toronto has made it since 2016. Kevin Gosman will take the mound for the Blue Jays. Game time is just after 4 p.m. Eastern. And that is your world this hour.
