Everybody was unified in wanting this war to end and seeing peace in the Middle East, and we're very close to achieving that. Donald Trump is optimistic. His peace plan is becoming a reality.
Starting point is 00:00:50 The U.S. president posted a video on his social media platform after Hamas responded to his peace plan, also telling Israel to stop bombing Gaza. Hamas says it's a very important. ready to release hostages, but wants to negotiate a number of other issues in Trump's 20-point plan. Journalist Blake Sifton is in Tel Aviv. Well, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly views Hamas's response as intended to buy time because of how vague it is. And he thinks that President Trump's enthusiasm for a breakthrough is premature. Trump has, of course, demanded that Israel stopped bombing Gaza. That hasn't happened. There has been continued shelling and air strikes
Starting point is 00:01:27 overnight. But the Israeli government has ordered the military to pause its offensive to seize and occupy Gaza City. The family members of the hostages held in Gaza are very hopeful. They're demanding that the government stop hostilities now and immediately begin negotiations. And there are reports that the Israeli government has indeed ordered its negotiating team to prepare to deploy imminently. And negotiations could be held as early as tomorrow in Egypt. In its response, Hamas has glaringly not addressed Israel's second major demand. after the hostages, which is that it must disarm. Hamas also wants clear timetables and maps for when Israeli forces will withdraw from Gaza. That has not been clear up until this point.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Blake Sifton for CBC News in Tel Aviv. Operations are slowly returning to normal at Munich Airport after another drone sighting. For the second time in less than 24 hours, both runways were forced to close. It's the latest in a series of drone sightings that have disrupted flights across Europe. It also comes as European Interior Ministers gathered to discuss defences against the devices. Dominic Valaitis has the latest. Although delays are expected, planes are once again taking off and landing at Munich Airport this morning. Following last night's drone sighting, some six and a half thousand passengers were left stranded
Starting point is 00:02:47 after the airport was forced to close. Stefan Kraschansky is a drone expert. So the drone incursions we are seeing over the last few weeks are, basically a kind of a test, how the authorities, especially police and also military, react to those kind of threats. There have been a series of incidents involving drones in recent weeks, with airports in Denmark and Norway also forced to close for several hours. This week, Russia's Vladimir Putin denied Moscow had anything to do with the drones in response. Germany says it intends to raise the matter of anti-dron defenses later today at a meeting of European Interior
Starting point is 00:03:26 ministers. Dominic Valises for CBC News, Bristol, England. Several areas in northern and southern Ireland have been impacted by storm Amy. The storm uprooted trees and damaged vehicles in the north, while bringing high seas and flooding to parts of the south. In Galway, the storm surged seawater onto roads. A man in his 40s died in what police described as a weather-related incident in Donigal. An estimated 49,000 homes and businesses are without power in the south. The local utility company there some may be without power into next week. About 22,000 are in the dark in Northern Ireland. A spokesperson at Dublin Airport says around 20 flights were cancelled this morning,
Starting point is 00:04:07 and a number of other flights were delayed as a result of weather issues. Canada's baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays, is getting ready to open their American League Division Series against the New York Yankees. Go Jays, go. They're ticking it all the way. We won it all, so we're right behind them. Last time they were good 10 years ago, I was not even 10. boys of summer will be hosting New York today to open the best of five series in their quest for
Starting point is 00:04:31 the fall classic. Thanks to an expanded playoff format, it's the first time the two clubs will meet in the postseason, and it's the furthest Toronto has made it since 2016.
