Starting point is 00:00:43 bill c2 was introduced last spring with the goal of strengthening border security but in an interview with a cbc news pauliev says the bill infringes upon canadian's rights kate mckenna has this exclusive story let me take this opportunity to talk talk about other legislation that's... For weeks in the House of Commons, public safety minister Gary and Assangery has been promoting his bill, C2, also known as the Strong Borders Act. But now the proposed legislation may not have enough support to pass through the House of Commons.
Starting point is 00:01:14 In an interview with CBC News, Conservative leader Pierre Paulyev says his party won't support it. Their current bill, C2, will not pass unless they remove the violations of Canadians' individual freedoms. The bill was introduced in part to persuade the U.S. administration that concerns about safety at the Canadian border
Starting point is 00:01:33 were unwarranted. It would give law enforcement more powers around border security, immigration enforcement, and information sharing. But civil liberties and privacy experts criticized it, saying some provisions seem to go beyond border control. For example, it allows police access to some of an individual's digital activity without a warrant. Both the Block Quebec and the NDP have expressed similar concerns. Kate McKenna, CBC News, Ottawa. After Donald Trump's order to Israel to stop bombing Gaza, explosions and smoke are still being experienced in the region today. Trump's demand came after Hamas said it would refuse hostages under release,
Starting point is 00:02:15 excuse me, hostages under his peace proposal. Indirect peace talks are set for Egypt to negotiate other parts of the Trump plan. But for now, the families of hostages just want to see a deal done. Gil Dickman is the cousin of one of those captives. we move closer to a deal, extremists on the Israeli side and on the Palestinian side will try to sabotage it. Starting point is 00:02:54 Ukraine was under air raid alert for most of the night, with the western city of Lviv, hit by a barrage of missiles and drones. The local governor says at least two people are dead, two others injured. Another person was killed in an attack on Zaporizia that left more than 70,000 customers without electricity. Meanwhile, neighboring Poland scrambled its fighter jets to protect its airspace from Russian incursion. The Journal of Blue Jays have their forced postseason victory in nine years.
Starting point is 00:03:24 In game one of their American League Division series, the team overpowered the New York Yankees despite losing some star power. As Jamie Strachan tells us, it's now onto game two later today. Coming into this series, it was the New York Yankees who hit the most home runs in baseball. Toronto flipped the script, slamming three home runs, including two-by-catcher Alejandro Kirk, as the Blue Jays rolled the Yankees 10 to 1. Playing without injured All-Star infielder Bo Bichet, the Jays, like they've done all season, got contributions from every part of their lineup.
