Too many students are packed into overcrowded classrooms in Ontario schools,
and it's hurting their ability to learn.
But instead of helping our kids,
the Ford government is playing politics,
taking over school boards and silencing local voices.
It shouldn't be this way.
Tell the Ford government to get serious about tackling overcrowded classrooms
because smaller classes would make a big difference for our kids.

A message from the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario.

51,000 Alberta teachers are set to go on strike Monday morning.
They've been in a contract dispute with the provincial government for months.
Now every public, Catholic, and Francophone school teacher could be off the job.
Sam Sampson reports.
Thousands of families are finding ways to deal with the province-wide teacher strike starting Monday.
It's a tipping point after months of negotiations between the province and the union.
Teachers want more money, a cap on classroom sizes, and more resources for kids with complex needs.
The province's latest offer included a 12% wage increase and 3,000 more teachers.
That was rejected by almost 90% of Alberta Teachers Association members.
We fully support the teachers.
Though she now has to figure out what her three school-aged children will do during the strike, Beverly McCool,
says she stands with educators.
And we're not asking for 15 student classrooms.
Like they're asking for 25 students.
To help with the emergency child care,
the province promised parents of children 12 and under $30 a day per child while the strike is underway.
On Sunday, thousands gathered in Edmonton, Calgary, and other communities to show support for the strike.

Negotiators from Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas will meet with mediators in Cairo Monday
to try to finalize a ceasefire deal to end the war in Gaza
and secure the release of Israeli hostages being held by Hamas.
The plan was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump last week.
Tonight, Trump is expressing optimism about the outcome.
The countries of the world, a lot of the countries surrounding Israel,
frankly, Muslim, Arab, and many others have had great meetings with Hamas.
I think it's going to go very quickly.
The meeting seemed to be very good.
We'll find out.
you know soon. Israel has not stopped its military campaign in Gaza, directly contradicting Trump's
initial demand, but tonight Trump says if Hamas tries to cling to power, it faces complete
obliteration. Well, the fight between U.S. President Donald Trump and Democrat-run cities is heating up.
A federal judge in Oregon has blocked the president's plans to deploy federal troops in Portland,
but Trump is trying to find a way around that and is now deploying hundreds of U.S. National Guard
troops to Chicago as well. Ashley Burke has more. Washington, D.C. went from a hellhole to a safe place.
We're going to do that in Chicago. We're going to do that in Portland. He's doing that even after a federal
judge in Portland ruled that Trump's gone too far. She issued a temporary restraining order,
blocking Trump from sending National Guard troops to Portland. Today's ruling is a healthy check
on the president's power. Oregon's attorney general, Dan Ray,
field calling it the right move. But hours later came news from California's governor, that Trump
is sending a National Guard troops to Oregon, but deploying them from California instead. On Tuesday,
Trump told military leaders he wants to use American cities as training grounds for troops to respond
to civil disturbances. And he's pointing to ongoing protests in Portland and Chicago as his
justification. This is a war zone. Trump's Homeland Security Secretary, Christy Noem on Fox News,
after Trump authorized deploying 300 National Guard troops, there too.

Almost 1,000 people have been trapped on the Tibetan side of Mount Everest by a blizzard.
Roads in the area are blocked.
Chinese state media say rescue efforts are underway,
trying to get people safely off the mountain.
They're trapped 4,900 meters above sea level.
And finally, the Toronto Blue Jays are one win away from advancing to the American League Championship series.
after another wins Sunday against the Yankees.
The Jays get a remarkable performance from Trey Savage and offense everywhere
as they beat the Yankees 13 to 7.
The Jays are now headed to New York for game three.
And that is your world this hour.

Thank you.
