Mark Carney will be walking a diplomatic tightrope this morning when he meets at the White House with U.S. President Donald Trump. Trade is what led to the... this meeting, but as we hear now from Willie Lowry, there are other issues the Prime Minister

will need to navigate. The relationship between these two leaders is a delicate one, not only because of the ongoing trade war, but Donald Trump's recent speech to military generals in which he once again called for Canada to become the 51st state. And today's meeting is about a lot more than trade. Kearney and Trump are expected to discuss a host of issues around security, as well as the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Prime Minister Carney has endorsed President Trump's 20-point peace plan in Gaza, but the two do not see eye-to-eye when it comes to a future Palestinian state, with President Trump rebuking Canada and other Western countries' decision to recognize Palestine.

So he'll have to navigate that and other issues, all while trying to set the U.S.-Canada relationship on a more cordial and productive path. Willie Lowry, CBC News, Washington. Still with President Trump, he says he may be willing to implement the American Insurrection Act to allow for the deployment of National Guard troops. In an interview last night with the Newsmax TV network, Trump says it would allow him to bypass recent court decisions that are preventing him from sending troops into cities that he considers to be, quote, out of control. Well, it is a way to get around it. If we don't have to use it, I wouldn't use it. If you take a look at what's been going on in Portland, it's been going on for a long time. and that's insurrection. I mean, that's pure insurrection.

After deploying troops to Los Angeles and then Washington, D.C., Trump is now looking to move on Portland and then Chicago. Two of the leaders of the truck convoy that took over downtown Ottawa in the winter of 2022 are scheduled to be sentenced today. Both Chris Barber and Tamara Leach have been found guilty of mischief, with Barber also convicted of counseling others to commit mischief. The Crown is looking for at least a seven-year prison sentence. The defense wants an absolute discharge. Today is a deadline for the federal government to respond to marine lands request for emergency funding. The Ontario Amusement Park says if it doesn't get the financial help it needs, it will have to euthanize as many as 30 beluga whales.

The park had a deal last month to send the whales to an aquarium in China, but Ottawa blocked the export request. It was determined it was not in the best interest of the whales. Two years ago today, October 7, 2023, the Palestinian militant group Hamas, attacked southern Israel. The coordinated assault claimed 1,200 lives, with Hamas taking 251 hostages. And across Israel today, memorial services large and small are being held. Meanwhile, in Gaza, millions of Palestinians continue to deal with the impact of the ongoing Israeli response. Crystal Gamansing reports. In Gaza, street noise, people jostling for food and crowds,

but it is the cry of her children that caught Salma to wield. not able to bear this situation. Toil spoke to CBC over Zoom not long after she was forced to leave Gaza City with her family. She's now in Dira Bala, but isn't sure it's much safer. The World Health Organization says 42,000 people in Gaza are now living with life-changing injuries, save the children last month said at least one Palestinian child has been killed every hour on average by Israeli forces in Gaza during the course of the war. Israel says it tries to protect civilians by issuing evacuation notices.

Humanitarian groups have repeatedly called for an end to the fighting, citing the right to protection, food, and clean water, none of which are readily available in Gaza.
