Starting point is 00:00:00 How do you know Dwayne the Rock Johnson? Is it as a mega movie star in Jumanji or The Fast and the Furious? Is it as Maui in Disney's Moana? Or are you a wrestling fan and you still smell what the rock is cooking? In the new film The Smashing Machine, Dwayne goes back to his fighting roots. And there's only one guy he wanted to direct the film, Benny Safdi. Benny will tell you about directing the movie. Dwayne Johnson is calling the most challenging of his career.

Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to Washington continues with an expected working dinner this evening with Vice President J.D. Vance. Earlier, Carney made his second visit to the Oval Office since becoming Prime Minister. He met with President Donald Trump seeking to lower tariffs on key Canadian sectors. There are areas where we compete, and it's in those areas where we have to come to
Starting point is 00:00:58 an agreement that works, but there are more areas where we are stronger together, and that's what we're focused on, and we're going to get the right deal. But so far, there is no deal. Still, Trump praised Carney and his negotiating skills. He's a good man. He does a great job, and he's a tough negotiator. So then what's holding things up? If he's a great man and you want to do a deal with Canada, why aren't you? Because I want to be a great man, too.
Starting point is 00:01:23 U.S. tariffs are hitting the Canadian steel, aluminum, copper, auto, and softwood lumber sectors are especially hard. Two years have passed by, but we're still in the same long day. The families of hostages taken by Hamas in 2023 say they want their loved ones home now. On October 7th, the militant group killed 1,200 people at a music festival and kidnapped about 250 others. Israel believes 48 hostages remain in Gaza. The country faces growing domestic and international pressure to end its military campaign there. Ricardo Piers, with the UN Children's Agency, says more than 60,000 Palestinian children have either been killed or injured. That's an average of one child either killed or maimed every 17 minutes.
Starting point is 00:02:13 This is an unacceptable staggering figure that we still have to live with today. Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel have ended. at their second day in Egypt. Hamas is only partially agreed to a U.S. proposed peace plan, calling for the militant group to disarm and play no future role in governance. Meantime, Winnipeg are born in Israel, says today is a difficult day for the Jewish community. Emily Kahlo says it was the deadliest day for Jews in recent history, and people need to understand they're hurting. Supporting your Jewish peers, acknowledging their suffering and making sure that they know you're here for them is not a political statement. It's not political to acknowledge what
Starting point is 00:02:52 happened on the seventh and that there was a barbaric attack on civilians who were at a music festival or in their homes. Kalo says she and others have lost friends over the ongoing war. She hopes for peace deal soon. Two of the leaders of the truck convoy that took over downtown Ottawa in the winter of 2022 have received conditional sentences. Both Chris Barber and Tamara Leach have been found guilty of mischief. Barber was also convicted of counseling others to commit mischief. Defense lawyer Lawrence Greenspont, says both Lynch and Barber are considering appealing their convictions. In Canada, constitutionally protected freedom of speech, which encourages peaceful assembly, must prevail over the rights of property owners.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Both were sentenced to 12 months of house arrest, followed by six months' curfew and community service. Police in Longay, Quebec have released a video they hope will help locate the parents of an abandoned baby. On Sunday, the infant was found on the front step of a residence in Langay. Gabriel Gindy has more. The grainy footage shows someone who appears to be holding the baby, walking on the sidewalk through the frame of the video. They believe the person in the video is the same person who abandoned the child in front of the home in view Longuey. The baby was premature and had its umbilical cord still attached, but is now safe in hospital. Longuey
Starting point is 00:04:12 police spokesperson Jacques-Lin-Pierre hopes the parents will come forward. We understand that you are undoubtedly going through an extremely difficult time. This act, as upsetting as it may be, shows us that you wanted your child to be safe. Longuey police say they don't know if the person in the video is one of the parents, but believe if they come forward, then the parents will follow suit. And say as of right now, they're not thinking about laying criminal charges. We are human beings. The police service of Longay, their priority is the health of the baby and the parents.
