But instead of helping our kids, the Ford government is playing politics, taking over school boards and silencing local voices. It shouldn't be this way. Starting point is 00:01:04 and we're going to get the right deal. But so far, there is no deal. Still, praised Trump praised Carney and his negotiating skills. He's a good man. He does a great job, and he's a tough negotiator. So then what's holding things up? If he's a great man and you want to do a deal with Canada, why aren't you? Because I want to be a great man, too.
Starting point is 00:01:23 U.S. tariffs are hitting the Canadian steel, aluminum, copper, auto, and softwood lumber sectors especially hard. In Israel, mourners arranged flowers at the site of the Novan Music Festival. One of the locations where Hamas militants killed more than 1,200 people and took 251 hostages two years ago today. Orat Baron Stodl Yuval was among the victims. She says the pain is still raw. Nothing else is important.
Starting point is 00:01:53 Nothing else can be complete because, She's my heart, and they took it from them. Israel believes roughly 48 hostages women in Gaza, about 20 of them alive. The memorials come as delegations from Hamas and Israel work to finalize a deal that would see their release. The war in Gaza has killed nearly 70,000 Palestinians, according to local health officials. Meantime, a Winnipegare born in Israel says today is a difficult day for the Jewish community. Emily Kalo says it was the deadliest day for Jews in recent history. history, and people need to understand they're hurting.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Supporting your Jewish peers, acknowledging their suffering and making sure that they know you're here for them is not a political statement. It's not political to acknowledge what happened on the 7th and that there was a barbaric attack on civilians who were at a music festival or in their homes. Kalo says she and others have lost friends over the ongoing war. She hopes for a peace deal soon. Two of the leaders of the truck convoy that took over downtown Ottawa in the winter of 2022 have received conditional sentences. Both Chris Barber and Tamara Leach have been found guilty of
Starting point is 00:03:04 mischief. Barber was also convicted of counseling others to commit mischief. DeVant's lawyer Lawrence Greenspon says both Leach and Barber are considering appealing their convictions. In Canada, constitutionally protected freedom of speech, which encourages peaceful assembly, must prevail over the rights of property owners. Both have been sentenced to 12 months of house arrest, followed by six months curfew and community service. Blaise in Longay, Quebec, have released a video. They hope will help relocate the parents of an abandoned baby. On Sunday, the infant was found on the front step of a local home.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Gabriel Gindy has more. The grainy footage shows someone who appears to be holding the baby, walking on the sidewalk through the frame of the video. They believe the person in the video is the same person who abandoned the child in front of the home in Vue Lenguey. The baby was premature and had its umbilical. court still attached, but is now safe in hospital. Longuey police spokesperson Jacqueline Pierre hopes the parents will come forward.
Starting point is 00:04:03 We understand that you are undoubtedly going through an extremely difficult time. This act, as upsetting as it may be, shows us that you wanted your child to be safe. Longuey police say they don't know if the person in the video is one of the parents, but believe if they come forward, then the parents will follow suit. And say as of right now, they're not thinking about laying criminal charges. We are human beings. The police service of Longay, their priority is the health of the baby and the parents. Police are offering the parents' resources such as the help of a social worker or mental health treatment. Gabriel Gindi, CBC News, Longuay.
