Too many students are packed into overcrowded classrooms in Ontario schools,
and it's hurting their ability to learn.
But instead of helping our kids, the Ford government is playing politics,
taking over school boards and silencing local voices.
It shouldn't be this way.
Tell the Ford government to get serious about tackling overcrowded classrooms
because smaller classes would make a big difference for our kids.

A message from the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario.
from cbc news it's the world this hour i'm joe cummings there is joy today in the middle east with israel and hamas agreeing to the first phase of a peace plan for gaza
First from Han Yunus and then Tel Aviv, that is the reaction as news broke overnight
that an agreement has been reached on the pullback of Israeli troops in Gaza
and the release of the remaining hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
With more now from Tel Aviv, here's Crystal Gamansing.
At Hostage Square in Tel Aviv, there is singing.
people are milling around.
There are Israeli flags, and there is a sense of joy and calm and overwhelming relief.
People have been at the square for so many hours already, talking about the moment that they heard the news,
the joy they felt, and then the pause, the relief, the fear of what happens next.
The next step in this process will be the Israeli Security Cabinet meeting later this afternoon.
And then, of course, the government will meet to approve this deal.
And then we expect to see this first phase of the deal that was agreed to,
the hostage release, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, all to start unfolding rather rapidly.
But here at Hostage Square, there is a calm, joyous feeling.
Crystal Gamansing, CBC News, Tel Aviv.
Prime Minister Mark Carney is among the world leaders welcoming the agreement.
In a post on social media, Carney says,
feels attainable after years of intense suffering.
Britain's Prime Minister Kier-Starmer calls at a moment of profound relief.
EU officials are calling the agreement a major diplomatic accomplishment.
And the UN's Antonio Guterres is promising to immediately step up relief efforts for people in Gaza.
There are reports a small number of U.S. National Guard troops are now being deployed outside federal property in the Chicago area
and are actively assisting law enforcement in Memphis.
A military official was quoted yesterday
as saying 200 Texas National Guard troops
have arrived at a U.S. Army Reserve Center in Elwood, Illinois.
The city of Chicago and the state of Illinois
are taking legal action against the deployments
and a hearing is set for later today.
Now to the General Employees' Union Strike in British Columbia,
it is in its sixth week with widespread service delays
already across the province
and the reach of this job action is now growing.
Caroline Bargut has more.
One day longer.
One day stronger.
25,000 out of 34,000 government employees are walking the picket line in British Columbia.
It's the largest civil service strike in this province.
They are corrections officers, social workers, administrative staff, and now, BC Liquor and Cannabis Employees.
Paul Finch is the president of the British Columbia General Employees Union.
He says wages are the main issue.
The government's last offer was 2% per year.
Our last offer was 4% per year.
We're willing to go back to the table to negotiate and find a common ground.
Government isn't.
Negotiations between the province and the union began in January but broke off in July.
Workers went on strike on September 2nd.
Talks resumed at the end of the month but only lasted for four days before they broke off again.
At this point, it's unclear how long the strike will last.

It's good to be a Blue Jay fan this morning.
And the Blue Jays have done it.
They have knocked off the New York Yankees.
They have won their first playoff series since 2016.
That's a Jays winning game four last night of their divisional series
against the New York Yankees in New York.
Final score 5 to 2, and Toronto wins that best of 5, 4 games to 1.
Jay's now advanced to face either Seattle or Detroit
in the American League Championship Series,
game one will get underway Sunday in Toronto.
And that is the world this hour.
For CBC News, I'm Joe Cummings.
