Starting point is 00:00:26 The debater's 20th anniversary season, comedy, worth arguing about. From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Kate McGilfrey. The Israeli cabinet meeting this hour is set to ratify a ceasefire deal with Hamas. If approved, the truce would begin Friday, halting the more than two-year-old war.
Starting point is 00:00:49 It would see the return of some 48 Israeli hostages and the release of Palestinian prisoners. Aaron Collins has the latest. On the streets of Gaza, jubilation. Relief from Palestinians at the potential end of this conflict. Is it over? asks this man. No more bombing, no more drones, no displacement, no hunger. The initial terms of the ceasefire were agreed to Thursday.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Under it, Hamas will return the remaining hostages by next week. Shosh Bedrogyan is an Israeli government spokesperson. All of our hostages, the living and deceased, will be released. will be released 72 hours later, which will bring us to Monday. Israel is preparing to receive our hostages in all conditions they may be in. If the truce holds Israeli forces will partially withdraw from Gaza, holding on to roughly half of the enclave, a full ceasefire will take effect Friday. Aaron Collins, CBC News, Calgary.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Donald Trump says he hopes his peace plan in Gaza leads to a lasting peace in the region. All Americans should be proud of the role that our country, is played in bringing this terrible conflict to an end. The president says he plans to attend an official signing ceremony in Egypt, sealing the first phase of his proposal, and he says he'll be speaking to Israel's Knesset during his visit to the Middle East. A French court has added another year to the jail term of the man who challenged his conviction for raping Giselle Pelico.
Starting point is 00:02:21 The 72-year-old woman was drugged unconscious by her husband, who invited dozens of men to rape her. 51 men were handed jail terms last December, but 44-year-old Hussamitin Dogen was the only one to appeal his nine-year jail sentence. The prosecutor says Dogen was unwilling to take responsibility for his actions. St. John's Newfoundland is asking people to use less water because of low supply. Deputy city manager, Lynn Ann Windsor, says water levels are similar to the last time the city had a water ban in July 2009. And we're hoping for rain and, you know, I've lived in Newfoundland a long time.
Starting point is 00:02:59 I've never seen a fall where we didn't get any rain. So let's hope for the rain and then the pond should start to rebound and we should be good. The city's asking people to take shorter showers, turn off a tap while brushing their teeth, run dishwashers and washing machines only when they're full and to fix any leaks around the house. St. John's is one of several Newfoundland communities that have experienced water shortages due to a very dry summer. And as the euphoria from last night's Blue Jays' series win fades, fans are turning their attention to the next series. And the first big question, whether they'll be able to get or even afford tickets. Jamie Strasson reports. This is why you play the game.

In the champagne-soaked locker room, George Springer and his teammates celebrate a series victory over the mighty New York Yankees. Now for the Blue Jays and their fans, the focus now shifts to the American. League Championship Series. Tickets for that went on sale this morning. Some were lucky. I managed to grab three tickets for me and my parents. I got on Ticketmaster at like 930 and then I think I got tickets around like 10, 15. But others weren't so lucky and are now making plans to watch the game from their couch. I saw like the standard tickets for 500 and then I was selecting
Starting point is 00:04:14 it and then all of a sudden is just gone. So it was pretty upsetting. The resale market is already exploding with tickets priced at a few hundred dollars now going for thousands.
