Writers are good at their craft when they're good at observing other people. I like Taylor Swift's music. Reputation is her worst album because it is just obsessed with rumors about her. R.F. Kwong joined me for a special on-stage interview in Toronto to talk all about her new book, Catabasis. And we got into some hot topics along the way. Starting point is 00:00:36 From CBC News, The World This Hour. I'm Kate McGilfrey. Donald Trump says he believes Hamas will release all Israeli hostages by Monday or Tuesday. The first phase of the U.S. President's peace plan would see fighting in Gaza end by tomorrow evening. Trump says he himself intends to travel to the Middle East on Sunday. Willie Lowry reports. and everlasting peace. Peace in the Middle East. U.S. President Donald Trump confident the Israeli hostages will come home,
Starting point is 00:01:05 and the war in Gaza will end. The U.S. leader helped to broker the deal that will see 20 living hostages returned as well as the bodies of 28 more. And Israel will retreat to an agreed-upon line, still holding 53% of the enclave, but cease its military campaign. Trump praised countries in the region for coming together as mediators. in Turkey for helping us reach this incredible day. Trump said upcoming phases of the peace plans still to be ironed out
Starting point is 00:01:35 would see the reconstruction of Gaza and hopefully the money of many nations to back it. He plans to travel to the region very soon, to take part in an official signing and to welcome the hostages back to Israel. Willie Lowry, CBC News, Washington. Hamas's Gaza chief says the group has, received guarantees from U.S. and Arab mediators that this war is over. We are now also awaiting official confirmation from Israel. The country's government is now meeting to approve this ceasefire agreement. The United Nations is welcoming news of the ceasefire and says its teams are ready to deliver
Starting point is 00:02:17 life-saving aid to Palestinians in Gaza. Secretary General Antonio Guterres is pleading with Israel to provide unrestricted access for aid workers. Supplies are in place and our teams are on standby. We can scale up food, water, medical and shelter assistance at once. But to turn this fire into real progress, we need more than the silencing of the guns. A UN report in August found that half a million Palestinians are suffering from famine. Drake's lawsuit against Universal Music Group has been tossed out. A federal judge decided that the lyrics of a Kendrick Lamar disc track are opinion, not liable.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Drake sued his own record label for promoting the song Not Like Us. The rapper claimed it contained false allegations of pedophilia and hurt his reputation and his income. The music company denied that, and today a judge agreed. New information has allowed Edmonton police to narrow down the search area for a missing indigenous teenager. 14-year-old Samuel Bird disappeared in June. Police believe he's dead as a result of a criminal act and that his body was dumped in a rural area. Sam Sampson has the latest. We're looking for still a needle and a smaller haystack.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Edmonton police detective Jared Bueller stands near a busy highway about 160 kilometers west of Edmonton. This area of bush and farmland is where police believe the body of 14-year-old Samuel Bird will be found. Bird has been missing since June 1st. Earlier this month, police said they were searching a geographic area of thousands of square kilometers. But within the past 24 hours, they received new information that led. them here. Bueller says they're keeping the exact location under wraps to prevent the public from doing their own searches. A hundred people traipsing through the bush right now. We want as pristine a search area as we can right now. Police say they have identified people of interest,
Starting point is 00:04:14 but as of yet, no charges have been laid. Sam Sampson, CBC News, near Knighton, Alberta. And the measles outbreak in Ontario that started about a year ago has been declared over. Public Health, Ontario. says the last person connected to the outbreak was diagnosed with measles on August 21st and no one knew has contracted the virus since. In all, almost 2,400 people were infected with measles and one newborn baby died after being born to a mother who had the virus. The report cautions that measles is still circulating elsewhere in Canada. And that is your world this hour.
