Starting point is 00:00:49 meanwhile u.s president donald trump is on his way to israel where he'll meet with some of the hostages and address the knesset brier stewart has more After being held hostage in Gaza for more than two years, 20 Israeli hostages will be turned to their families in the coming hours. And Israel will release 2,000 Palestinians who've been imprisoned. As part of the ceasefire agreement, 600 aid trucks are supposed to enter Gaza every day, but far fewer shipments are currently coming in. And in Han Yunus, some of the trucks that entered Gaza today were swarmed by desperate crowds. They have to find a solution for us, said Salome Barbeck. The trucks have to be secured. There have been reports of clashes between Hamas and a clan in Gaza City,
Starting point is 00:01:41 which left several people dead. Part of the peace framework calls for an international stabilization force to immediately deploy to Gaza. But that's not in place yet. Starting point is 00:02:01 and Egyptian President Abel Fate-El Sisi. They're set to discuss the end of the war in Gaza. Neither Israel nor Hamas will be there. While it came down to the wire, but France's reappointed Prime Minister has named a new government. Sebastian LeCourne's cabinet will include some members from President Emmanuel Macron's centrist camp, several allied conservatives,
Starting point is 00:02:23 as well as people from outside of politics. But it is unclear how long this will last. The government is under enormous pressure to get a budget passed and quell growing political turmoil in France. Opposition parties have been calling for new elections. Donald Trump is downplaying his latest trade war with China. The battle between the world's two biggest economies has implications for the entire world,
Starting point is 00:02:48 in particular for global supply chains. Chris Brown reports. In a statement that aired on China's state, Broadcaster Sunday, its Commerce Ministry blasted the United States for intensifying a superpower trade war. Global supply chains recoiled and stock markets tumbled after China imposed export controls on rare earth minerals last Thursday. President Donald Trump responded with a 100% tariff on Chinese goods starting November 1st. China produces 90% of the world's rare earth minerals and magnets. They're used to make everything from electric vehicles to aircraft engines.
Starting point is 00:03:29 But the U.S. makes even more products that China also needs, including high-tech components. There had been an uneasy truce between the superpowers overtrade and cautious hope that a deal might emerge from a meeting between Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping later this month. Trump has raised doubts. That meeting will now go ahead. Chris Brown, CBC News, Taipei. Manitoba's Premier is also calling for this country to change its trade relationship with China. Wab Canu wants Canada to lift its tariff on Chinese electric vehicles
Starting point is 00:04:02 in order to help prairie producers of products like canola and pork dealing with Chinese tariffs. Speaking on CTV's question period, China's ambassador to Canada says that strategy will work. Wang Di spoke through a translator. If the EV tariffs are removed, then China will also remove the tariffs on the relevant products of Canada. The Trudeau government put 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs last October, following the U.S. decision to do the same.
Starting point is 00:04:32 It said the move would protect domestic EVV production. In response, China levied a number of tariffs on Canadian agricultural goods, including 100% tariffs on canola oil and canola meal. And that is The World This Hour.
