From CBC News, the world this hour.
I'm Neil Hurland.
Anticipation is growing in both Israel and Gaza as the clock ticks down to historic exchange.
The 20 surviving hostages being held captive by the Palestinian militant group Hamas
will be returned to Israel around 2 a.m. Eastern time tonight,
followed by about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees who will be
released. The CBC's Margaret Evans explains what's expected to happen in the coming
hours. The International Committee of the Red Cross, I should say, is once more handling the
exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian detainees. They'll be the ones collecting the
hostages from a point in Gaza and taken, we understand, in a convoy of about eight vehicles
to Israel to a reception area where specialist medical attention and psychological help will be
available and then of course to be reunited with their families. There are 250 Palestinian prisoners
in Israeli jails who are expected to be released. The Red Cross, their vehicles will take the
prisoners to designated spots in the West Bank. From there they will be distributed to their
families. 1,700 Palestinians from Gaza who were detained by Israel without child.
over the course of the war are also due to be released.
The CBC's Margaret Evans in Jerusalem tonight.
U.S. President Donald Trump is on route to Israel right now.
He'll land Monday morning in the country,
and he's expected to speak in the Israeli parliament that Knesset.
Meantime, Prime Minister Mark Carney is on his way to Egypt right now.
He'll attend a special summit chaired by President Trump
and Egyptian President Abdel Fata El-Sisi.
They're supposed to discuss ending the war on.
in Gaza, but neither Israel nor Hamas will be there.
Ottawa is expected to announce its second list of major nation-building infrastructure projects next
month. One of the potential projects is a $3 billion Kivolik Hydrofiber Link. It would start
in Manitoba and connect Western Nunavut to electric grids and high-speed internet. Karen Pauls
has more. This project is so important to us.
Kuno Tatuni heads the Kiva Lik Inuit Association. He's also on the board of
Newkick, the Inuit-run Corporation in charge of the project.
Nunavut imports all of its fuel to power diesel generators, the main electricity source for
isolated communities. The proposed hydrofiber link would stretch 1,200 kilometers, connecting
Manitoba Hydro's power grid to five western Nunavut communities and a gold mine.
So what an amazing time to be a Canadian.
The premiers of Manitoba and Nunavut have agreed to work together on the project.
The mayor of Rankin Inlet, Harry Totangi, sees the benefits, but he has questions.
Will locals get any of the jobs, and how will it impact the environment and the wildlife?
Proponents know it's a delicate balance, but Kunu Tatuni says,
There's no better time than now to connect the rest of Canada.

Madagascar's president is accusing a military unit of attempting a coup against his government,
An officer from the unit known as Capsat says they're taking command of all the country's armed forces.
The unit was pivotal on bringing President Andri Rajalina to power after a coup in 2009.
On Saturday, Capsat soldiers joined anti-government protests that have plunged the country into crisis for weeks.
Protests first broke out over water and electricity shortages, but now they've expanded to include calls for a complete,
overhaul of the government. The Toronto Blue Jays are playing their first game against the Seattle
Mariners right now as the American League Championship series begins in Toronto. Right now, the Jays are
ahead 1-0 at the top of the fourth inning. If the Jays beat the Mariners over the next seven games,
they're headed to the World Series. And that is your world this hour. For CBC News, I'm Neil Hurland.
Thank you.
